Daily Fantasy Football: Week 17 DraftKings + FanDuel NFL DFS Picks

Patrick Mahomes Resting

The Chiefs locked up the top seed in the AFC with their win over the Falcons in Week 16. As a result, Mahomes is resting against the Chargers. As of now, no other players are sitting for Kansas City. I have to think more rest is coming and the line indicates as much. The Chargers are favored to beat the Chiefs, which wouldn’t happen in a scenario with the Chiefs playing regulars. Even without Mahomes, Kansas City is more likely to win this game under normal scenarios. Due to the line and the knowledge that this game doesn’t matter, neither Tyreek Hill nor Travis Kelce are viable options. For the first time all season, we can confidently fade the Chiefs.

Browns Gifted A Playoff Spot And DST Is Cheap

Ownership is tricky to predict this week since it’s much different from any other DFS slate. News dominates the slate and it’s harder to figure out some of the top plays on Wednesday than it is on a normal slate. With that said, one play that stands out is the Browns’ defense, which isn’t picking up much ownership. I think this will change, but for now, this is a play with less than 10% ownership. The Browns are playing the Steelers for a playoff spot and Pittsburgh is resting Ben Roethlisberger. Cleveland is a double-digit favorite with this news. Since the Browns have all their starters playing, they should be able to run through the backups and cause problems for Mason Rudolph.

Ty Johnson As A Value Play, Because Week 17

In the first build I made for this weekend’s games, Johnson is the running back I am getting the most exposure to. The Jets are locked into the second pick in the draft and this game means nothing for them. For the first time all season, a win is an acceptable outcome for the Jets. Frank Gore got injured last week, opening up playing time in the backfield. In limited action, Johnson is providing results for the Jets. He is averaging 4.9 yards per carry and caught as many as six passes two weeks ago. On paper, a matchup against the Patriots doesn’t look great but this is also a meaningless game for New England. We could see the Pats rest starters in this game.

Dalvin Cook Out For The Vikings’ Season Finale

Cook will not play this week because of a family emergency. Alexander Mattison is the next man up but his availability is also in question. He is questionable to play after limited practice on Wednesday, so we could see a crazy situation in the Vikings’ backfield. Mattison is a decent play at the moment, but Mike Boone becomes a top play on the slate if Mattison can’t play. This would leave Boone as the lone back left standing. Buried on the depth chart, Boone rarely sees the field, but he is averaging five yards per carry on limited touches this season and averaged 5.6 yards per carry last year. At his price, he should find success if finding himself in an expanded role.

The Packers Still Have Something To Play For

The Packers have not locked up the top spot in the NFC yet. With a win over the Bears this weekend, Green Bay earns a bye in the first round of the playoffs. This makes them a team we can target because they have motivation to run their starters all game. Value is easy to come by on Week 17 slates so Davante Adams stands out as a pay-up option on FanDuel and DraftKings. We need to spend salary somewhere and Adams is one of the only high-end receivers that doesn’t have workload concerns.
