NFL Fantasy Football QB rankings start 'em sit 'em quarterbacks Taysom Hill 2021 Fantasy Football Advice tips lineups Derek Carr Raiders Saints

Week 12 is underway after Thanksgiving, and there are NFL DFS picks to be made and daily fantasy football advice to be given for DraftKings, FanDuel and Yahoo contests. Greg Ehrenberg breaks down some of the key news in his Slant and Go article for your Week 12 DFS lineups on Sunday.

Daily Fantasy Football: Week 12 DraftKings + FanDuel NFL DFS Picks

Taysom Hill Competent in First Start At Quarterback

Taysom Hill was one of the best daily fantasy football value plays a week ago. Due to his price and tight end eligibility on FanDuel, he crushed and broke the slate. Now we have to look at him as a normal quarterback. Both FanDuel and DraftKings priced up Hill, and he’s listed at the position he plays. Hill himself is viable after averaging 10 yards per pass attempt in his first start, and it will be interesting to see how he changed the dynamics of the Saints’ offense.

The player hurt the most by Hill playing quarterback is Alvin Kamara. Screen passes and short routes to Kamara were a massive part of the Saints’ offense with Drew Brees at quarterback. Playing with Hill, everything changed. Kamara was only targeted once on Sunday, easily his fewest targets of the season. On the other hand, Hill looked at Michael Thomas a ton. Thomas saw a season-high 12 targets, and it looks like Hill won’t hurt Thomas’ value much. He is going a bit overlooked given his role last week and is one of my favorite options at wide receiver. He’s a stronger play on DraftKings than FanDuel.

Ravens in Shambles After COVID Outbreak

The Thanksgiving slate was ruined after a handful of Ravens’ players tested positive. Lamar Jackson is among the players dealing with COVID. In addition, Mark Ingram and J.K. Dobbins also tested positive and are on the COVID list. This leaves Baltimore with Robert Griffin as its starting quarterback in a tough matchup against the Steelers. Since Pittsburgh is undefeated with one of the best defenses in the league, it is tough to envision Griffin finding much success in this matchup. The Steelers rank first in the NFL in defensive DVOA. Even so, the Steelers defense isn’t currently projected for much ownership. This could change by Tuesday, but if it doesn’t, this is a rare spot where an expensive defense would stand out as a top play for a daily fantasy football slate.

Running Backs Potentially Returning From Injury

As of the time I am writing this, Myles Gaskin and Austin Ekeler are listed questionable. Gaskin hasn’t played since Week 8 while Ekeler hasn’t played since Week 4. Despite the layoffs, we need to monitor their situations. On multiple occasions, workhorse running backs have returned from injuries and broken slates this season. Dalvin Cook and Christian McCaffrey have come back to full workloads coming off of injuries and crushed at low ownership. There is some of this potential with Gaskin and Ekeler. Gaskin has a great matchup against the Jets, and Ekeler is too cheap across all daily fantasy football sites when considering the kind of role he has in the passing game when healthy. With Justin Jackson on IR and Kalen Ballage questionable, somebody will stand out as a value play in the Chargers backfield.

Finding Leverage Off of Dalvin Cook

Play Cook in cash. For that matter, play Cook in GPP also. There are also ways to gain leverage off of Cook if playing multiple lineups. He’s currently projected for more ownership than any other skill position player on the slate. This makes sense when considering his current workload and a positive matchup against the Panthers. This is also leading to the Vikings’ passing game going overlooked.

We saw a similar situation last week. With massive ownership on Cook, a stack of Kirk Cousins and Adam Thielen went low owned. This ended up as a massive leverage spot. Even though Cook played well, Thielen caught a pair of touchdowns and had a monster game while scoring more fantasy points than the running back. Cousins is only projecting for 2% ownership, and Thielen is on the COVID list. Justin Jefferson isn’t garnering much ownership at the moment and is a strong target to stack with Cousins. Every touchdown this duo scores is a touchdown that gets taken away from Cook.
