Top Stack: Pittsburgh Steelers

Coming off a dismal close to the 2020 season, Pittsburgh finished 1-4 in this final five games after starting the season 11-0. However, they appear near the top of the NFL top stacks tool, with Cleveland dealing with an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. As it stands, Pittsburgh is a 5.5-point favorite over the Browns in a game totaled at 47.5 points.

Despite finishing the year ice cold, Ben Roethlisberger performed well throughout a majority of 2020. He finished the season completing 65.6% of his passes for 6.3 yards per pass attempt. Despite the mild efficiency, Roethlisberger benefitted from a 64.2% pass rate, which ranked second in the NFL. On top of that, Pittsburgh also was top 12 in plays per game, giving Roethlisberger ample opportunities to air it out.

As far as stacking options go, team-leading receiver Diontae Johnson also struggled with efficiency down the stretch. Johnson led Pittsburgh with a 22.9% target share but dropped more passes than any other receiver (11). Behind Johnson, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Chase Claypool also received 19.6% and 16.7% target shares in Pittsburgh’s voluminous offense. Even Eric Ebron received at least five targets in nine of his last 10 games to close the season.

With ample stacking options and a pass-first offense working in his favor, Roethlisberger provides a strong contrarian stacking option on the Sunday DFS slate for Wild Card Weekend.

Value Stack: Chicago Bears

For those looking at value stacks, the Bears are in play while actually providing a fair amount of leverage. Limping their way into the playoffs, they finished 3-7 in their final 10 games, with brutal losses coming against Minnesota and Detroit in that span. However, they enter Wild Card Weekend as 9.5-point underdogs against the New Orleans Saints in a game totaled at 47.5.

When these teams previously met this season, Chicago actually lost by a slim margin of 26-23. While Nick Foles quarterbacked the team at that point, New Orleans still permitted 272 yards passing and a pair of scores to the Bears offense. This week, Mitchell Trubisky will lead Chicago after winning three out of Chicago’s final four games. As a passer Trubisky has now thrown for at least 250 yards in four of his last five games. Chicago ranks sixth in overall pass rate (62.3%) and should continue with this pass-first approach as significant underdogs against New Orleans.

Trubisky also makes an intriguing stacking option because of his narrow target distribution. Allen Robinson dominates this offense with a 25.4% target share and 1,250 yards receiving to date. Behind him, Darnell Mooney enters this week with the questionable tag. However, the rookie speedster from Tulane notched 20 total targets in his last two games, making him a viable dart throw. Even rookie tight end Cole Kmet has received 14 total targets in the Bears’ last two games.

For those looking at discount stacks on the Sunday Wild Card Weekend DFS slate, the Bears provide ample upside and enough salary relief to target multiple studs.
