After a full day of NFL action, the NFL caps off it’s first Sunday night with the Green Bay Packers taking on the New Orleans Saints. Despite winning their first two games, the Packers enter this contest as 3.5-point underdogs. On the other side, the Saints will look to take advantage of their home field advantage as they try to rebound from a brutal defeat at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders. Despite the brutal loss just a week ago, the Saints possess a number of advantages over the Green Bay Packers in Week 3. On top of playing at home, Green Bay expects to miss their star receiver Davante Adams. While the Saints will also play without Michael Thomas, Adams’ loss may not impact this particular game quite as much. Last week, the Saints still accumulated 424 total yards of offense without their star receiver on the field. Three hundred twelve of those yards came through the air, with Tre’Quan Smith stepping up for five catches for 86 yards on seven targets. More importantly, Alvin Kamara displayed his skillset as a receiver with nine catches for 95 yards.
On the other side, Green Bay’s defense has struggled despite facing the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions to open the year. Through these two games, the Packers have allowed 1,010 yards from scrimmage to opposing offenses. Particularly struggling against the run, the Packers have allowed 5.2 yards per attempt to opposing rushers. This mark ranks third-worst in the NFL. With Kamara suddenly dominating backfield snaps, the Saints healthy offensive line should take advantage of a struggling Packers’ defense here.
Favored by just 3 points at home, the Saints remain the best bet ahead of this Packers – Saints tilt on Sunday Night Football.
Allen Lazard – Over 52.5 Receiving Yards (PointsBet)
A bet correlated with the Saints against the spread, the Packers project to throw in this game as 3.5-point underdogs. With Adams out of the picture, Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling project to play as Green Bay’s top two wide receivers. According to Awesemo’s projections, Lazard’s receiving yardage prop remains too low by about 12 yards. Current projections slate Lazard for 66.5 receiving yards as Green Bay’s top wide out.
While Valdes-Scantling holds a slight target edge of Lazard (13-9), Lazard continues to run more routes. Lazard ran a route on 84.4% of Aaron Rodgers‘ drop backs, compared to 68.8% for Valdes-Scantling. From a matchup standpoint, the Saints allow a middling 6.5 yards per attempt to opposing passers. However, Marcus Davenport, Trey Hendricksonand David Onyemata all enter Week 3 with the questionable tag. With a potentially hampered pass rush, Rodgers could find more time to look at Lazard down-field in this spot.
