First Look: Week 5 NFL DFS Picks for DraftKings and FanDuel

Week 4 was certainly wild. Between the Titans outbreak of COVID-19 and the Chiefs-Patriots game having to be pushed back a day because of a positive test on both teams, we didn’t have a full compliment of DFS options Sunday. Let’s dive into some of the aftermath of Week 4 and take a first look at how it will impact our NFL DFS picks in Week 5.

NFL DFS Week 5 First Look | DraftKings + FanDuel NFL DFS Picks

Quarterbacks

Teddy Bridgewater, CAR at ATL (DraftKings: $5,900, FanDuel: $7,100)

The Panthers earned a big win over the Cardinals on Sunday to improve their record to 2-2. Bridgewater had his best performance with his new squad, throwing for 276 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while chipping in 32 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. Prior to that performance, he had totaled two touchdowns and two picks through three weeks. While he could still provide muted state lines more often than not, a matchup against the Falcons’ porous defense is about as good as it gets, making him a viable option to target.

Daniel Jones, NYG at DAL (DraftKings: $5,400, FanDuel: $7,000)

The Giants’ offense has looked awful. Yes, they are missing Saquon Barkley (knee), but Jones seems to have taken a significant step backward under the new coaching staff. He hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass since Week 1, and he has five interceptions on the season. He hasn’t even topped 200 passing yards in back-to-back weeks. However, if there was ever a week for him to break out of his funk, this is it with the Cowboys allowing an average of 36.5 points per game.

Running Backs

Joe Mixon, CIN at BAL (DraftKings: $6,300, FanDuel: $6,900)

There wasn’t much to like about Mixon’s performance the first three weeks. He didn’t rush for more than 69 yards in any of those games and failed to find his way into the end zone. That all changed against the Jaguars, though, with him rushing 25 times for a whopping 151 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught all six of his targets for 30 yards and a score. As encouraging as that performance was, it will be difficult to feel confident in deploying him against a Ravens team that has allowed the seventh-fewest rushing yards per game in the league.

Kareem Hunt, CLE vs. IND (DraftKings: $6,500, FanDuel: $7,000)

It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for the Browns after their win over the Cowboys. Nick Chubb (knee) went down in the victory and he could be sidelined for at least Week 5, if not longer. With him out, Hunt rushed 11 times for 71 yards and two touchdowns. D’Ernest Johnson also flourished with 13 carries for 95 yards. While the two would both likely see an increase in workload if Chubb were to miss any time, Hunt has by far the higher ceiling of the two.

Darrell Henderson Jr., LAR at WAS (DraftKings: $5,300, FanDuel: $6,000)

Henderson looked primed for a big performance against the Giants in Week 4. He steamrolled the Bills the prior week, rushing 20 times for 114 yards and a touchdown. However, he only received eight carries against the Giants, turning them into 22 yards. His limited workload was especially peculiar considering Cam Akers (ribs) was inactive. Malcolm Brown ended up leading the team in carries with nine, so the Rams backfield could be fluid on a weekly basis. If Akers returns, it could be a full-on mess, making Henderson a risky proposition.

Chase Edmonds, ARI at NYJ (DraftKings: $4,700, FanDuel: $5,900)

Kenyan Drake couldn’t get anything going against the Panthers on Sunday, rushing 13 times for 35 yards. He has only one rushing touchdown this season and has been almost non-existent in the passing game, which has capped his production. Now he’s dealing with a chest injury that forced him out in the fourth quarter. If he is unable to take the field in Week 5, that would likely set up Edmonds to be the Cardinals’ featured back against a struggling Jets team that allowed 107 yards and two touchdowns to Melvin Gordon last week.

Wide Receivers

CeeDee Lamb, DAL vs. NYG (DraftKings: $6,000, FanDuel: $5,900)

It seemed like an embarrassment of riches when the Cowboys drafted Lamb in the first round since they already have Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup at wide receiver. However, after just four games, Lamb has seemingly already surpassed Gallup in the offense. Gallup has received 24 targets through four weeks while Lamb has 29 of them, which includes at least seven targets in each of the last three games. This has the makings of an ideal matchup for Lamb since the Giants are extremely thin at cornerback behind James Bradberry, who will likely spend most of the game on Cooper.

Jerry Jeudy, DEN at NE (DraftKings: $5,400, FanDuel: $5,500)

The Broncos are running out of healthy pass-catching options. Already down Courtland Sutton (knee), now emerging tight end Noah Fant (ankle) is expected to be out for at least this game against the Patriots. The good news is that quarterback Drew Lock (shoulder) could return after missing the last two contests. Even if he doesn’t play, Jeudy will likely see an increase in targets regardless of who is under center. The rookie has been consistent to start off his career, posting at least 55 receiving yards in each of his first four games,

Deebo Samuel, SF vs. MIA (DraftKings: $5,300, FanDuel: $6,000)

The 49ers have been one of the teams hit the hardest by injuries this season. They did finally receive some reinforcements Sunday with Samuel and George Kittle making their returns. It marked Samuel’s first game of the season, so it’s not a huge surprise that he wasn’t overly involved with just three targets. Further removed from his injury, he should be in line for a heavier workload in this matchup against the Dolphins, who have allowed the fifth-most passing yards per game. If Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle) were to make his return in this matchup, Samuel would become even more appealing.

Tight Ends

Dalton Schultz, DAL vs. NYG (DraftKings: $4,800, FanDuel: $5,300)

With the Cowboys’ defense struggling yet again, their offense was forced to play catch-up Sunday. That led to another busy afternoon for Schultz, who caught four of eight targets for 72 yards and a touchdown. He’s received 24 targets across the last three weeks and should continue to be busy with Blake Jarwin (knee) lost for the season. At his reasonable salary on both sites, he’s going to be difficult to resist against a weak Giants’ secondary.

Mo Alie-Cox, IND at CLE (DraftKings: $4,200, FanDuel: $5,400)

Alie-Cox was one of the more pleasant surprises at tight end through the first three weeks. With Jack Doyle and Trey Burton both forced to miss time, Alie-Cox posted 111 receiving yards in Week 2 and followed that up with 50 yards and a touchdown in Week 3. That continued in Week 4 when he once again found his way into the end zone against the Bears. However, with both Doyle and Burton back, that was his only reception of the game and he finished with just two targets. He could continue to be a red zone favorite of Philip Rivers’, but his upside is going to be limited as long as Doyle and Burton are in the fold.
