Yahoo Daily Fantasy Week 17: NFL DFS Rostership Picks and Pivots

Awesemo has a ton of great tools and NFL DFS strategy to help tackle all the largest contests for Week 17 NFL DFS. This Yahoo Daily Fantasy article will walk through some of the standouts in the early Awesemo rostership projections. It will look at who is projected to be highly rostered, who makes for good chalk plays, which highly rostered players may be worth fading and who the low-rostered pivots are in large-field tournaments. With that said, let us get into the Yahoo daily fantasy NFL picks for Week 17.

Week 17 Yahoo Daily Fantasy NFL Picks & Rostership

Awesemo has some of the best rostership projections on the planet for NFL DFS. If playing in large-field GPPs every week, then using rostership projections can bring a massive edge by knowing where the good pivot and leverage spots will be.

Quarterback

Good Chalk: Josh Allen $41 (Yahoo Projected 16.4% Rostered)

Josh Allen is coming off a great game last week against the Patriots where he threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns against one of the better defenses in the league in New England. Allen was at his best making incredible throws downfield last week, and his added rushing upside against the listless Falcons — who have allowed the third-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this year — makes him a valuable pay-up target. He is again the top quarterback in the Awesemo point projections for Week 17, with a solid lead over most of the players in the $30 range this week.

Chalk to Fade: Trey Lance $20 (Yahoo Projected 20% Rostered)

A cheap rushing quarterback is always tempting in DFS, but the 49ers are in a spot in Week 17 where they may not have to be throwing the ball much. San Francisco is a 13-point home favorites, and they come into this week averaging just 30.5 pass attempts per game — the fourth fewest in the league. Trey Lance is very likely to push for well over 20% rostership based on early projections but does not even rank in the top eight for projections. He is a decent fade candidate with some other big-name quarterbacks in good spots.

Low-Rostered Pivot: Patrick Mahomes $36 (Yahoo Projected 8.6% Rostered)

The Chiefs are 5.5-point favorites this week against Cincinnati and have a strong 28 implied team total. Despite that, Patrick Mahomes is trending with under 10% rostership this week. He has the second-highest points projection as well (a couple points behind Allen). If the Bills cruise to an easy win and the Chiefs – Bengals gets into shootout status, Mahomes and his receivers could be a great pivot play.

Running Back

Good Chalk: David Montgomery $25 (Yahoo Projected 38.6% Rostered)

This recommendation is somewhat based on the Bears starting Nick Foles again. With Foles at the helm, David Montgomery was able to show off his high-end receiving skills, grabbing seven receptions for 61 yards on nine targets. The Bears are facing a much weaker run defense too, so Montgomery could even find room as a rusher. He has better upside if Foles starts, but Montgomery grades out strongly enough (he has the second-best points projection this week at running back) that riding him at this cheap price makes sense.

Chalk to Fade: Jonathan Taylor $42 (Yahoo Projected 16.8% Rostered)

The Colts will be starting rookie Sam Ehlinger this week, and this fade recommendation is mostly based off that (and the fact the Colts may struggle to convert enough first downs to keep Taylor on the field). Ehlinger struggled in preseason, and last week New Orleans showed how a green quarterback with little to no experience can crush the fantasy upside of their lead back. With Jonathan Taylor super expensive and good value options under $30 at running back, fading him might work out in Week 17.

Low-Rostered Pivot: Rashaad Penny $22 (Yahoo Projected 7.4% Rostered)

One of the biggest surprises of the back quarter of this season has been the emergence of Rashaad Penny in Seattle. Penny has taken at least 10 carries in four straight games and produced his second game with 19 or more Yahoo points last week against the Bears. The Seahawks are devoid of much pop on offense, so expect Penny to get lots of touches again against the Lions, who are also just playing off the string. He is quietly climbing the projections and is still projected for low rostership.

Wide Receiver

Good Chalk: Antonio Brown $28 (Yahoo Projected 25.6% Rostered)

The Buccaneers proved that their depth is nearly unmatched in the NFL last week, as they promptly ran up the score on the Panthers despite being down their two best wideouts. Antonio Brown’s 15 targets may not get matched this week against the Jets (the Buccaneers may not need to throw much in the second half), but he is still going to have lots of chances for big plays against one of the league’s worst defenses. The big rostership numbers are scary, but he has the second-highest points projection at wide receiver for the main slate. With his salary still under $30, eating the chalk one more time seems prudent.

Chalk to Fade: A.J. Brown $31 (Yahoo Projected 17.6% Rostered)

A.J. Brown had a spectacular game last week against the 49ers and almost single-handedly brought the Titans back from the brink of defeat. The Dolphins are going to be a tougher test, though, as they have elite athletes in their secondary and a great pass rush that could cause Ryan Tannehill serious problems. Brown is also priced above $30 and coming in with over 15% rostership projections. It is a decent fade spot for Week 17.

Low-Rostered Pivot: Tyler Lockett $24 (Yahoo Projected 3.1% Rostered)

Tyler Lockett had a slow game last week, but he has such a good history of big games with Russell Wilson and had produced 15 or more Yahoo points in his two starts prior to last week. The Lions secondary remains one of the worst in the league at giving up big plays, and Seattle should be up for showing some pride in this spot as their season drifts lifelessly to an end. Lockett has better point projections than Keenan Allen, who is priced nearly the same but projected for much higher rostership.

Tight End

Good Chalk: Zach Ertz $17 (Yahoo Projected 21.4% Rostered)

The Cardinals desperately need a win this week, and they will be facing off against a Cowboys offense that is firing on all cylinders. That should mean plenty more looks for Zach Ertz, who has become a target magnet with DeAndre Hopkins out, accumulating 24 in his last two games alone. Ertz’s biggest attraction though is price, which remains exceedingly cheap for a tight end getting his level of targeting. He is within a point of the highest-rated tight end on the main slate this week in the projections.

Chalk to Fade: Dalton Schultz $14 (Yahoo Projected 8.4% Rostered)

While Dalton Schultz has been a nice surprise for most of 2021, he is still just the third-best target on his team, even on a good day. He has had a couple of nice outings in a row and found the end zone in two straight games. That is only going to help his rostership levels rise as the week goes on and people realize how undervalued he is. However, Schultz does not have a monster projection in Week 17 (he is outside the top five projected at his position), and Arizona has allowed the third-fewest receptions this year to opposing tight ends. Schultz is a good fade.

Low-Rostered Pivot: Travis Kelce $31 (Yahoo Projected 3.2% Rostered)

Whenever the highest-projected player at his position is set to come in with rostership levels under 5%, it is worth a look. Travis Kelce is in just such a spot this week against the Bengals, as he has the highest point projections for any tight end by nearly a point. As mentioned above, the Chiefs have a 28-point implied team total for their game against the Bengals, who have allowed the fifth-most receptions and second-most yards to opposing tight ends this year. Kelce/Mahomes could be an elite duo to stack in Week 17.
