Yahoo NFL Picks: Week 2 Monday Night Football Lions vs. Packers

Tonight the Green Bay Packers are hosting the Detroit Lineups for the Week 2 featured Monday Night Football matchup, and Yahoo Fantasy is making its NFL DFS debut in the NFL single-game format. The general concept of creating a team remains the same, but this is a one-game player pool. The twist is that any position player can be rostered, and one is designated to receive a 1.5x multiplier on their Yahoo fantasy points. Using Awesemo’s expert NFL projections and rankings, these are the top Yahoo NFL picks for the Monday Night Football game tonight.

Yahoo NFL Picks: Week 2 Monday Night Football

Top SUPERSTAR Options

The SUPERSTAR position will get a 1.5x multiplier on their Yahoo points in the single-game format.

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers – $30

After laying an egg in Week 1 where he was lifted in the fourth quarter with the rest of the starters, Aaron Rodgers should be playing with more fire in his eyes. It is hard to imagine him failing two weeks in a row. It helps that Green Bay will be playing in Lambeau Field against a shaky Detroit defense. Once again the Lions are expected to be near the bottom of the league in passing DVOA, which bodes well tonight for Rodgers.

Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers – $37

Davante Adams will be the first and second option for Rodgers. Some of the ancillary receivers should step up more with another year of experience under their belt, but Adams still projects as a top-three wide receiver week in and week out. It will be hard to replicate his career-high 18 touchdowns, even with an extra game. However, tonight there is a strong argument to grant Adams the SUPERSTAR 1.5x multiplier in all formats.

Yahoo NFL Core Picks

Jared Goff, Detroit Lions – $25

Even though he does not attack downfield and relies on his pass catchers to make plays after receptions, the volume should be there for Goff tonight. Playing from behind last week against San Francisco, Goff attempted 57 passes, which was the third most in his career. For perspective, that is also the third most in Lions history, with Matthew Stafford having topped that figure twice in 2011. Awesemo projects Goff for 32.9 passes for 231.5 yards. However, that is a median outcome, and with Detroit likely to be down early, there is definitely a path for Goff to approach 50 attempts, which should have him flirting with 300 yards. From there his upside comes down to if and how touchdowns are scored.

Jamaal Williams, Detroit Lions – $16

In his debut for Detroit last week Jamaal Williams saw nine targets, which was the third most on the team. D’Andre Swift ($22) led the way with 11, and tight end T.J. Hockenson ($20) had 10. Goff prefers short passes, which should enable the running backs and Hockenson to rack up the fantasy production at half a point per reception. Williams gets the discount, which makes him an easy choice among this trio. Plus, he and Swift are likely to each get around 10 carries as well.

Yahoo NFL Value Picks

Detroit Lions Wide Receivers

The receiving corps is incredibly raw, with Tyrell Williams in the concussion protocol and Breshad Perriman being a late training camp cut. The remaining receivers have barely any game experience. Quintez Cephus ($11) is the only current player to see meaningful snaps with the team last year, and Kalif Raymond ($10) is the next most proven veteran, having logged 36 games in six seasons with various teams. After them is a trio of rookies: Amon-Ra St. Brown ($10), Trinity Benson ($10) and Tom Kennedy ($10). There is a chance that KhaDarel Hodge ($10) will be active as a replacement for Williams, though he was claimed after being a cut by the Browns and has 30 targets in 39 games over three seasons. Cephus and Raymond look like the only two worth dart throws for salary relief.

Final Thoughts

Tonight Yahoo is running a $200,000 single-game contest for Monday Night Football, which is the largest such tournament in their new SUPERSTAR format. This contest is unlikely to fill, and as such, there is a strong possibility that more than 30% of the field will win prizes. If the contest fills completely, the top 25% will still be guaranteed to win cash. It will be prudent to build rosters with a specific game flow in mind while also finding one or two ways to be unique, either with player selection or by using the SUPERSTAR 1.5x designation.
