Yahoo NFL Picks: Week 1 Monday Night Football Raiders vs. Ravens

Tonight, the Las Vegas Raiders are hosting the Baltimore Ravens for the Week 1 Monday Night Football opener, and Yahoo Fantasy is making its NFL DFS debut in the NFL single-game format. The general concept of creating a team remains the same, but this is a one-game player pool. The twist is that any position player can be rostered, and one is designated to receive a 1.5x multiplier on their Yahoo fantasy points. Using Awesemo’s expert NFL projections and rankings, these are the top Yahoo NFL picks for the Sunday Night Football game tonight.

Yahoo NFL Picks: Week 1 Monday Night Football

Top SUPERSTAR Options

The SUPERSTAR position will get a 1.5x multiplier on their Yahoo points in the single-game format.

Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens – $35

The one downside of single-game contests featuring the Ravens is that Lamar Jackson generally is on 95% of all rosters. This is absolutely appropriate, as he is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Jackson has 62 touchdowns passing and another 14 on the ground over his last 30 games. Yahoo did a fantastic job with his salary, but it is still easy to play Jackson tonight.

Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders – $25

Though it is never exciting rostering Derek Carr, he topped 20 Yahoo points in nine of his starts last year. Carr does a good job of playing within his means and limits turnovers as the fantasy production steadily adds up. By no means is this an easy matchup, but Carr is savvy enough to keep this game close, and he does just enough with his legs (five touchdowns in his last 23 games) to keep things interesting.

Yahoo NFL Core Picks

Mark Andrews, Baltimore Ravens – $21

Rashod Bateman and Miles Boykin are both on the injured reserve. Marquise Brown has tantalizing speed, but his hands are suspect. Sammy Watkins was dinged up this preseason, and though he is healthy now, he is learning yet another offense and becoming familiar with a new quarterback. By process of elimination, that makes Mark Andrews a terrific option, and he is actually a borderline elite tight end, in the tier just after Travis Kelce, George Kittle and Darren Waller. Nick Boyle was placed on the injured list Friday, which means Andrews could approach double-digit targets tonight.

Kenyan Drake, Las Vegas Raiders – $15

Josh Jacobs was downgraded to questionable on Sunday with a non-COVID illness. If he is inactive, Kenyan Drake becomes the best point-per-dollar option on the board. If Jacobs is active and starting, there is still a chance he is not 100% healthy. Drake was pursued this offseason by coach Jon Gruden, and even if Jacobs plays, Drake should still see one-third to one-half of the backfield opportunities, particularly if the Ravens jump out to a lead.

Yahoo NFL Value Picks

Ty’Son Williams, Baltimore Ravens – $10

The Yahoo salary algorithm missed the mark on Ty’Son Williams. Though the minimum salary is appropriate for an undrafted rookie, he is the starter tonight after injuries took out J.K. Dobbins, Justice Hill and Gus Edwards. Baltimore did bring Latavius Murray into the fold late last week after he was released by New Orleans, and he is expected to be the backup on short notice. Le’Veon Bell and Devonta Freeman were also added to the practice squad, though neither is expected to be active tonight. At a minimum, Williams should see half of the workload barring any glaring mistakes, and he has upside for more.

Hunter Renfrow, Las Vegas Raiders – $10

In an odd twist, Hunter Renfrow had almost as much production as the rest of the returning Raider wide receivers combined last year. Waller led the team with 1,196 yards, Nelson Agholor had 896 yards, and Renfrow logged 656. Henry Ruggs III (452), Bryan Edwards (193) and Zay Jones (154) together had 799 yards receiving. Carr prefers short passes, and Renfrow is a solid possession receiver working out of the slot.

Final Thoughts

Tonight is shaping up to feature a lot of roster overlap with Jackson, Williams and potentially Drake. That means there are just two other roster slots for differentiation. Fortune favors the bold in large-field tournaments. Bryan Edwards ($10) is an option that can be swapped in for Renfrow or Williams. If Jacobs is out, going to Marquise Brown ($15) over Drake would also be a solid leverage strategy.
