Tonight the Kansas City Chiefs are hosting the Buffalo Bills for the Week 5 featured Sunday Night Football matchup, and Yahoo Fantasy is offering NFL DFS single-game contests. The general concept of creating a team remains the same, but this is a one-game player pool. The twist is that any position player can be rostered, and one is designated to receive a 1.5x multiplier on their Yahoo fantasy points. Using Awesemo’s expert NFL projections and rankings, these are the top Yahoo NFL picks for the Sunday Night Football game tonight.
Yahoo NFL Picks: Week 5 Sunday Night Football
Top SUPERSTAR Options
The SUPERSTAR position will get a 1.5x multiplier on their Yahoo points in the single-game format.
Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills – $41
Tonight should be a wild one as we are looking at a projected game total bouncing in the 56- to 57-point range. Kansas City literally has the worst defense in the league. Not only are they last in both rushing and passing DVOA, but they are allowing 31.3 points per game which is only surpassed by the 32.0 of the abhorrent Atlanta Falcons.
Josh Allen has led Buffalo to a solid 3-1 record with their Week 1 loss to Pittsburgh looking more and more like an anomaly. The Bills are tied with Kansas City scoring 33.5 points per game which is bested only by the Arizona Cardinals. Allen has been excellent through the air with nine touchdowns, and he is averaging just over 30 yards per game on the ground. The addition of Emmanuel Sanders has been a big upgrade over John Brown and gives yet another sure-handed option for Allen.
Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs – $37
Once again Patrick Mahomes has been sublime from a statistical standpoint with 14 aerial scores against four interceptions while averaging 304.5 passing yards per game. Mahomes is on a league record pace for 56 touchdowns using a 16-game baseline. This is not going to be an easy matchup as the Bills already have two shutouts this season along with the best passing DVOA and the second best rushing DVOA. Mahomes is matchup-proof, and it will be fun seeing him work his magic on the field tonight.
Yahoo NFL Core Picks
Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs – $31
While Tyreek Hill ($32) is a phenomenal option who already has a pair of games with 185+ receiving yards, in his other two outings he posted single digit fantasy points. Travis Kelce has been the steadier option with at least 100+ yards or a touchdown in three weeks. Last Sunday he did have a dud, but he was still targeted six times and with Hill destroying the Eagles secondary there was no need to go to Kelce. Tonight Kansas City is facing a much tougher defense and we know that coach Andy Reid will be scheming to get his tight end into mismatched coverage opportunities that he can exploit.
Stefon Diggs, Buffalo Bills – $30
While it seems like this is a down year for Stefon Diggs after he led the league in targets, receptions and yards last season, he still has had double digit targets in three of the four games. It is important to remember that Buffalo shut out Houston 40-0 last week and Miami 35-0 in Week 2 while also cruising to a 42-21 victory over Washington in Week 3. The point is that Diggs simply was not needed and with everyone else healthy, there are plenty of options for Allen to select. However, in a marquee game such as tonight and with a high-powered offense on the other side, it makes sense to expect Diggs to be a priority in what could be an epic track meet.
Yahoo NFL Value Picks
Darrel Williams, Kansas City Chiefs – $11
This is a bargain for Darrel Williams who has seen his snap share increase each week while his counterpart Clyde Edwards-Helaire ($15) has been going in the opposite direction. During the last two weeks the opportunities have increased for Williams while remaining stagnant for Edwards-Helaire. While CEH has an appropriate salary for this shared workload, Williams is the best discount dandy on the slate since he should see around a dozen opportunities and could have upside for a handful more if Edwards-Helaire is ineffective.
Kansas City Bargain Receivers
Things have the potential to be a little muddled with addition of Josh Gordon ($12) who is eligible to play tonight. While it is unlikely he is on the field much this does cut into the opportunities for Demarcus Robinson ($10) and Byron Pringle ($10). This trio essentially cancels each other out, however, Mecole Hardman ($10) is also sitting at the Yahoo minimum salary and is an intriguing option. Though he is well behind Hill, Kelce and the running backs in the pecking order he does have at least three targets in three games which cannot be said about his counterparts.
Final Thoughts
Leaving $5-$10 on the table tonight is a viable strategy and will allow for unique roster construction. Based on the Awesemo median projections there are lineups that are within 10% of the highest combination that leave as much as $12 of unused salary cap.
