🏒 NHL DFS Power Plays: DraftKings + FanDuel Picks | David Pastrnak (3/7)

Saturday night in NHL DFS was a crazy one as the large slate produced many unexpected results. There are a few back ends of back-to-backs this evening, so keep that in mind too. Let us see what may unfold tonight.

Please note that both FanDuel and DraftKings has a six-game main slate starting at 5:00 pm ET. Thanks for your patience.

NHL Power Plays: DraftKings + FanDuel DFS Picks | Mar. 7

NHL DFS Picks: Centers

Sean Couturier ($7,700 FanDuel / $7,300 DraftKings)

Couturier is our top pick because of the goal potential. He has 6 goals and 12 points in his last 10 games for the Flyers. Furthermore, he had a 3-point effort against the Capitals in their only meeting where Couturier played. Philadelphia will also look to avenge an awful loss to Pittsburgh yesterday. Offense should be expected from both teams here on Sunday.

Keep playing Couturier, and do not overlook other centers in this tier like Kevin Hayes or Jack Hughes. Nicklas Backstrom offers some power-play value from Washington. For a Philadelphia option further down, consider Scott Laughton, who is around value minimum on Sunday.

Filip Chytil ($3,700 FanDuel / $3,700 DraftKings)

If we are looking to take risks, Chytil proves worth a shot on Sunday. He has points in both games since his return from injury and has good speed. This expects to scare Pittsburgh’s defense that typically does not respond well in the back end of back-to-backs. Expect a few more scoring chances than usual for Chytil against Pittsburgh’s bottom pairings.

Again, looking toward Pius Suter or one of the young Chicago centers might be a good choice too.

NHL DFS Picks: Wingers

David Pastrnak ($8,400 FanDuel / $8,900 DraftKings)

It is too hard not to keep firing shots at this. Pastrnak will produce a great amount DFS-wise, and his line will not yield points also. He has been Connor McDavidlike at home, with 6 points in four games. That includes a power-play goal. His shot average dips a tiny bit at home, but scoring chances inch slightly upward. Before we forget, New Jersey has one of the worst penalty kills in the league, and Boston typically has one of the better power plays.

The idea among upper-tier players could be to look at Alex Ovechkin or even Filip Forsberg once more on Sunday. Both provide excellent shot potential, and Ovechkin has goal potential (7 goals in 18 games is an aberration).

Frank Vatrano ($4,000 FanDuel / $4,500 DraftKings)

Some value can be found once again with Vatrano, as he is on a nice scoring streak for Florida. He has 5 points in his last five games while generating several shots and scoring chances per contest. Numbers are coming up and opportunities are getting better for the forward. He has shown another sustained run. Vatrano staying on the first line is great with his shoot-first mentality for Florida.

The risk with Vatrano is, when does he go invisible again? It has been the constant fear since this run began. Everyone assumes the worst with players like him. At least his price on DFS sites is low. It has not risen like one would expect during such a point streak. One never knows when Vatrano can be moved back down to a middle-six role once again. Until then, ride the wave.

In this price range, Jesper Bratt is starting to heat up for New Jersey, playing with  Hughes at times. Also, New Jersey is playing on the road, which may be better for them. Taking a look at Alexis Lafreniere or Kaapo Kakko (minimum price) is also a solid move.

NHL DFS Picks: Defensemen

Mattias Ekholm ($4,200 FanDuel / $5,400 DraftKings)

This slate has several projected high-owned defensemen, including Ekholm. Ekholm ownership elevates because Nashville and DFS owners alike are desperate for that hot player. The thought process is that the Nashville defender had been hurt throughout the start of the season. He continues to produce and has 34 shots with 24 scoring chances in his last 10 games. His price is still affordable on DraftKings despite a $2,000 increase. At least on FanDuel his price only rose $700.

Dallas will give up lots of chances, and even Nashville should be able to fire around 30 shots on Sunday night again. For some reason, these two teams play a little outside their comfort zone. This allows more unblocked shot attempts from the point, which bodes well for Ekholm. Keep an eye to see if Ekholm ends up getting more power-play time too.

For those looking elsewhere, John Carlson is going to be highly owned on Sunday because he just produces points against Philadelphia. Charlie McAvoy is looking for revenge versus New Jersey, and then it comes down to Kris Letang, who may be the hottest defenseman on the slate. He is going against a Rangers team that could allow several goals again.

NHL DFS Picks:  Goalies

For us Carter Hart is the only goalie confirmed at press time. It has been an adventure for the Philadelphia goalie all season. However, the Flyers need a high-level performance from their young starter. Washington will generate plenty of chances and test Hart often.

The problem lies in the fact that there are so many teams on the back end of back-to-backs in this six-game slate. Nine of the 12 teams overall approach this scenario on Sunday evening. Some have had a hair more rest since they played yesterday afternoon. However, it is still a tough turnaround.

It is early, and as always, changes can happen.
