🏒 NHL DFS Top Stacks for DraftKings + FanDuel: Colorado Avalanche | 2/16

The 2021 NHL season is nearly a month old and it’s been unpredictable and entertaining. Like many sports, the easiest way to maximize your ceiling is through stacking, and that couldn’t be any truer in NHL DFS. For reference, each goal averages 1.7 assists. In this article I’ll help you find the best stacks and NHL DFS picks for DraftKings and FanDuel fantasy hockey lineups using Awesemo’s Top Stack Tool.

Top Stacks: DraftKings + FanDuel NHL DFS Picks | Feb. 16

Top Stack: COL1

On an eight-game slate, we need to cognizant of our exposures and the field’s ownership. As the only stack on both sites with over 10% ownership and positive leverage, we need look no further than the new-look Colorado top line.

Brandon Saad is getting a crack with this top line while Gabriel Landeskog goes through COVID-19 protocol for one game. Saad has always had the benefit of playing with top-level talent because of his straight-line speed. As expected, he doesn’t have much ice time with Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon, but they dominated the puck last time out versus Vegas. With 66% chances for and over 60% shots for, opportunities were aplenty.

In a perfect world this line would still be fully correlated, but you can’t have it all. Since the Avalanche are facing the same team for the second game in a row, I don’t see any reason to expect a change in their performance. Let’s just hope they can find the net this time.

Over-Owned Stack: NYR1

As mentioned above, smaller slates carry a lot of highly owned plays, and value stacks are often paired with every top stack. That is the scenario here with the Rangers top line, so owners beware.

At over 18% owned on each site, they are the second-highest-owned stack on the slate, with a top-two stack probability no higher than fifth. The price of the line is the main draw for everyone, with the struggling Mika Zibanejad now priced like a second-line center on both sites. At some point we expect some regression, but missing Artemi Panarin won’t help, and the Devils have been able to limit opposing teams to the fewest goals per game.

With Colin Blackwell being on this top line, the Rangers lose their full correlation as well, so the ceiling is limited. I would much rather look to lower-owned value lines in better spots like VGK2 or MIN2.
