The 2021 NHL season is now over a month old, and it has been unpredictable and entertaining. Like many sports, the easiest way to maximize your ceiling is through stacking, and that couldn’t be any truer in NHL DFS. For reference, each goal averages 1.7 assists. In this article I’ll help you find the best stacks and daily fantasy hockey picks for DraftKings and FanDuel fantasy hockey lineups using Awesemo’s Top Stack Tool.
Top Stacks: Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks DraftKings & FanDuel | 3/6
Top Stack: TOR1
Linemates: Joe Thornton – Mitchell Marner – Auston Matthews
On a slate with multiple lines projected to be owned above 15% I am fine defaulting with the stack that then has the highest top 2 stack percentage on the slate. And, with a price on both sites low enough to gives us flexibility we can find plenty of ways to differentiate.
After missing a few games with a wrist injury Auston Matthews rejoined the squad and came back firing. In over 23 minutes of ice time, he put five shots on target and even blocked a few shots to boot. These are all positive signs that the wrist isn’t bothering him so hopefully after “shaking the rust” he can put a crooked number on the score sheet against Vancouver. The Canucks are sporting, what I would consider to be, the worst defense in hockey due to lack of discipline. The league’s most successful power play at 31.7% should get plenty of chances against the most penalized team in hockey taking over minors per game.
The NHL DFS community does often not enjoy rostering Joe Thornton but if you want to be different it’s the easiest route with a stack in a great spot such as this.
Awesemo’s Top 2 Stack Percentage: 26%
Awesemo’s Ownership Projection: 20.4%
Leverage: 5.6%
Others: WPG1, VGK1
Under-Owned Stack: CBJ1
Linemates: Jack Roslovic – Cam Atkinson – Patrik Laine
With projected ownership under 2% and proven success since their uniting this looks like a spot to go when using a popular stack to regain some leverage.
Not exactly a defensively responsible line in real hockey usually means good things for NHL DFS. With Corsi numbers under 50% you would expect a line to struggle across the board but to the contrary this line has a positive xGF and has a 55% of high-danger chance rate at 5-v-5. As you would expect at all strengths this line’s numbers begin to look a lot more enticing with steady increases across the board.
Dallas has had a terrible time scoring goals this year with injuries and the defensive nature of the club. Their lack of speed and emphasis on defense should also bode well for a line taking 86% of faceoffs in the opponent’s defensive zone.
Awesemo’s Top 2 Stack Percentage: 4.8%
Awesemo’s Ownership Projection: 1.8%
Leverage: 3%
Value Stacks: MTL2
