The 2021 NHL season is going strong, and it has been unpredictable and entertaining. Like many sports, the easiest way to maximize your ceiling is through stacking, and that couldn’t be any truer in NHL DFS. For reference, each goal averages 1.7 assists. In this article I’ll help you find the best stacks and daily fantasy hockey picks for DraftKings and FanDuel fantasy hockey lineups using Awesemo’s Top Stack Tool.
Top Stacks: Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks | March 9
Top Stack: PHI1
Linemates: James van Riemsdyk– Sean Couturier – Joel Farabee
The Sabres have been abomination for most of the season, and without Jack Eichel, this line should be free to roam about. With projected ownership under 1% on DraftKings (4.6% FanDuel), they make for an amazing leverage play.
Since the inception of this line, they have been producing at a clip beyond anyone’s expectations, with all three players averaging over a point per game over that stretch. Couturier is very well known for his defensive abilities, but with their lack of necessity in this game, he can expend more in the Sabres zone. That not only bodes well for him but also for his linemates, who are not creators with the puck.
Buffalo has been terrible all year at five-on-five in all aspects, and without Eichel, I see no reason for that to improve. With such low ownership projected, they make for a great leverage play with the ceiling to match any top line. They have been priced up on recent slates, but it’s with very good reason.

Priced through the moon, especially on DraftKings at $24,300, “the perfection line” should still never be projected for this little ownership regardless of the slate size. Getting over on them on either site is just too easy and helps diversify with depth lines from teams in positive spots. The Islanders have been very good at taking very few penalties and getting the league’s second-best goaltending from Semyon Varlamov, so I also won’t be going crazy with exposure to this trio; their ceiling could be limited if these hold true.
There is obviously no reason to go crazy with such low projected ownership, but if playing large-field tournaments or single entry, going to them is a simple way to differentiate yourself.
