DraftKings and FanDuel NHL DFS Power Plays, Saturday 4/20

This NHL Saturday comes in hard with a three-game slate full of Stanley Cup Playoffs intrigue. First off, let me remind you of the Votts media list and a few links to follow on this edition of NHL Power Plays. DFS players take notice of any and all changes.

When you are making your teams, one needs to make sure your goalie is confirmed and starting. Sites like Dailyfaceoff.com, Leftwinglock.com, and Goaliepost.com are great places for information. Another great source exists in the form of team beat writers.  Jeff has created a list on Twitter @Votts_DFS  for all of the NHL teams, and a separate list of all the beat writers for you to follow, it’s a great tool and a necessity. The advanced stats that I use and reference in this article come from Corsica.hockey and naturalstattrick.com.

NHL DFS GPP Power Plays For Saturday

High Priced Shot

Mark Scheifele ($6,700) — Scheifele is $8,000 on FanDuel but again it seems like this top line for Winnipeg plays better in St. Louis for some weird reason. They generate 25% more scoring chances and points seem there to be had. Game four in St. Louis featured seven shots on net and five scoring chances alone. This series has taken on a life of its own for better or for worse. Unfortunately, it may just be best to embrace it and stack the away team.

Saturday NHL Locks?

Alex Ovechkin ($7,400) — Ovechkin is a chalky option but still a good one — especially at home. His floor dropped a bit but is still good enough to expect three to five shots on goal and a block. The question comes down to real-world points. One needs at least a goal and maybe a goal and assist to hit value. Yes, the $8,700 FanDuel price tag is high but then again the chances of a goal are among the highest on the slate. Alas, the one thing Washington has going for it is the power play and the two offices of Ovechkin. It is that potential on the man advantage which drives this choice.

Alex Pietrangelo ($6,200) — Pietrangelo comes across as a risky play of sorts on Saturday but does have ten assists and 2.5 shots and blocked shots per game over his previous ten contests. That sounds balanced but consider the fact that he has not scored a goal in that time. Now, the counterpoint is when is he due for one? Pietrangelo is $6,400 on FanDuel which is not horrible.

Into The Middle

Roope Hintz ($4,100) — Generally, this goes in line with picking Colin Wilson on Friday night. This is a GPP “almost value” special where the price is near its upper threshold. Hintz has come up to $4,600 on FanDuel but still, that is cheap for the shot ceiling the center possesses. Hintz fired 14 shots on the goalie via 25 shot attempts in this series so far. His speed in the top-six has caused Nashville considerable problems throughout this series (not just in game four). Mats Zuccarello could be a choice as well and has three goals in his last four games. The expensive FanDuel price is not so good.

Craig Smith ($4,400) — This price is taking advantage of Smith at home in Nashville. His last home game saw him muster a goal with six shots and four scoring chances. His price is low enough to take a shot here. Even his FanDuel price is just $4.900. When both prices are more than $1,000 less than platform averages, that is a good thing. It means one is saving money to spend up elsewhere for stacks.

Throwing Some Darts

Oskar Sundqvist ($3,400) — Sundqvist has three points in his last four games but is only averaging a little over a shot a game in his last ten contests. The risk is dangerous but Sundqvist has played well in this series despite some small gaffes. Value centers are very slim pickings on Saturday.

Warren Foegele ($3,600) — The craziness of this run by Foegele is just something. He has eight points and six goals in the previous nine games. This is all on a shot volume that is less than two per night.

Grading The NHL Goalies

Looking towards the lesser goalies tonight might actually pay off in GPP’s. Don’t stray too far from what works. Ben Bishop as a GPP play again is not a bad idea and Connor Hellebuyck is quite cheap given the fact that no one in that Winnipeg series knows how to win at home. For bigger risks, Petr Mrazek is the cheapest starter on the slate and could be worth a flier.

Again, confirmations are a different animal in the playoffs. Most “starters” will play barring something unforeseen. As of now, all starters from game four will play in game five.

More picks and choices will be available on Slack and social media later. The key for Monday is patience with the NHL Power Plays.

Some Final Bits Of Advice

Teams to pile on the rabbit I mean stack on Saturday. This is important due to some under the radar stacking chances.

  • Washington PP 1
  • Winnipeg 1
  • Carolina 2
  • St. Louis 1
  • Dallas 2 / Nashville 1 — do not forget Roope Hintz
  • Craig Smith one-off

Those are just to name a few.

Best of luck on Saturday! This expects to feature much more in the way of chaos, slate wise. Let’s do that playoff hockey!
