DraftKings and FanDuel NHL Power Plays, Monday 11/19

This slate features nine games. First off, let’s remind everyone of the Votts media list and a few links to follow.

When you are making your teams, one needs to make sure your goalie is actually confirmed and starting. Sites like Dailyfaceoff.com, Leftwinglock.com, and Goaliepost.com are great places for information. Another great source exists in team the form of team beat writers.  Jeff has created a list on Twitter @Votts_DFS  for all of the NHL teams, and a separate list of all the beat writers for you to follow, it’s a great tool and a necessity. The advanced stats that I use and reference in this article come from Corsica.hockey and naturalstattrick.com.

Full Schedule For Monday November 19th, 2018

[table id=1052 /]

Prices are in DraftKings first and then FanDuel second.

Skater Plays For Monday

High Priced Shots

Matt Duchene ($6,500) — The recommended play here is reasonable given his price per point is so high and matchup. Duchene expects to play against a Florida team that will yield lots of chances away from their top line. Duchene scoring 12 points in his last six games (including three 3+ point contests) only boosts his case. Shot volume for him is only moderate so the floor is not quite as high. Playing one of the streakiest forwards on the slate carries risk. Mike Hoffman from the Florida Panthers has a plus matchup and is on just as hot of a bender (points in 15 straight games). Duchene is only $6,400 on FanDuel as hard as it is to believe. This makes stacking easy with the under priced Senators on Monday night.

Brayden Point ($6,100) — Point’s cheaper price tag makes for a nice one off or contrarian mini stack against a Nashville team that occasionally gives up some goals. This could be a unique opportunity for a mini game stack — given Tampa’s propensity to allow goals. Without Andrei Vasilevskiy in net, they are going to have to outscore teams most nights. Point has five goals in his last two contests! His shot volume is up to around 3.5 over the past half dozen starts. His FanDuel price is a bit high at $6,800 but the matchup likely will be better than what the top line from Tampa Bay faces tonight. Point also garners lots of power play time and Nashville’s penalty kill has only been around 75% over the previous ten games.

Jeff Skinner ($6,400) — Skinner carries some risk after his doughnut on Saturday night against Minnesota. This odd of a schedule produces some funky games and that was one. Over the nine contests before that, Skinner was on fire with over four shots a game and nine goals! Pittsburgh is a mess yielding four goals a game at home and is 1-5 in their last six. The penalty kill has been gouged by Tampa Bay and Ottawa. Buffalo’s speed and top line alone should give Pittsburgh fits.

Pittsburgh merits several plays but the risk is not knowing the status of Sidney Crosby. Crosby playing would throw a bit of a wrench into this so be mindful. He skated heavily on Saturday so a return is close. As for Skinner, his FanDuel price is $6,700 which is not hard to take at all. Pairing Jack Eichel is not a bad plan here. So Malkin-Hornqvist or Skinner-Eichel basically.

Other Top Lines To Watch for high priced plays:  Columbus 1, NYR 1, DAL 1, TOR 1.

Into The Middle

Elias Pettersson ($5,800) — Petterson scores well (ten points in his last ten games) and averages nearly three shots a game to boot. A home tilt against Winnipeg should not sway many away from him as he should go up against Winnipeg’s second line which is much weaker defensively. Vancouver struggling should keep his ownership low along with the larger than usual Monday night slate. His FanDuel price is only $5,900 which may be even more enticing. He just carries a better floor than most rookies, period!

Pierre-Luc Dubois ($5,900) — It is acceptable to take some risks in this price range. Dubois has six goals in his last nine games while averaging just over three shots a night. Columbus has been getting more goal scoring from Dubois as Artemi Panarin has been doing more distributing of late. Goals are essential in tournaments and the increased shot volume helps as well. His price is still good on both sites ($5,800 also on FanDuel). Toronto is a good matchup historically and the Columbus top line has been one of the better ones on the road in the early going generating top-ten level scoring chances per 60. Nazem Kadri becomes a decent counter here given his splits against the Blue Jackets and playing top line minutes. Consider Kasperi Kapanen in this position as well.

Elias Lindholm ($5,700) — Lindholm shoots right around three shots a night and has 12 points over his last ten games. That includes five goals playing on the Calgary top line. His breakout this year has not seen his price rise meteorically like some had feared. His $6,500 price on FanDuel is not high considering his production level. Vegas comes off playing last night in Edmonton and defensively can be quite vulnerable. Pairing Lindholm with some power play linemates from Calgary like Mark Giordano would be an intriguing way to stack on Monday to fit other pieces in. If Lindholm is not in your plans then a player like Max Domi might be or perhaps Ryan Dzingel.

Other middle priced talent to watch:  Craig Smith, Jason Pominville (high risk), Lars Eller, Filip Chytil (more value on FanDuel).

Throwing Some Darts

Anthony Cirelli ($3,500) — The Tampa Bay forward provides tertiary scoring for Tampa Bay and has two goals in his previous three contests, His shot volume is moderate but chances per 60 is pretty high for the pivot. Nashville’s bottom six can be vulnerable and injuries have exacted a little bit of a toll. He carries a $3,500 price on FanDuel as well. There remains lots to like about this choice and he is not the only one on Monday night from the bargain bin.

Tyler Toffoli ($3,800) — Risk exists with Toffoli but his DraftKings price is too low not to consider. He has increased his shot volume after the John Stevens firing and his ice time has risen as well. Shot volume plummeted in the early going and especially chances per 60 for the forward. St. Louis is not the most ideal matchup but the volatility of Jake Allen in net for the Blues merits some Kings considerations. This is a DraftKings only play as Toffoli is a whopping $5,600 on FanDuel.

Austin Watson ($3,500) — Watson or Calle Jarnkrok possess bottom six point potential yet can play top six minutes at any time. That is the risk involved but both are value picks on Monday. Watson has two points in his first two games and can block a few shots too. Watson is FanDuel minimum as well on this night. This makes for a punt play which allows even greater stacking opportunities elsewhere.

Other value ideas for Monday:  Jason Spezza (DraftKings only), Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Esa Lindell, Antoine Roussel (high risk).

Goading The Goalies

Again, our best bet with this slate is to simply wait for confirmations to come in.

Unfortunately, the waiting is real as there is no confirmations at this time.

  1. Pekka Rinne
  2. David Rittich
  3. Henrik Lundqvist (could move up)

Best of luck on Monday! This will be a crazy ride. More information comes later on slack and social media.
