DraftKings and FanDuel NHL Power Plays, Monday 11/26

This Monday of the NHL DFS season is chock full of plays, traps, and more. First off, let’s remind everyone of the Votts media list and a few links to follow.

When you are making your teams, one needs to make sure your goalie is confirmed and starting. Sites like Dailyfaceoff.com, Leftwinglock.com, and Goaliepost.com are great places for information. Another great source exists in team the form of team beat writers.  Jeff has created a list on Twitter @Votts_DFS  for all of the NHL teams, and a separate list of all the beat writers for you to follow, it’s a great tool and a necessity. The advanced stats that I use and reference in this article come from Corsica.hockey and naturalstattrick.com.

If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to contact me on our premium Slack chat, or you can hit me up on Twitter @ChrisWasselDFS.

If you would like a free one-week premium NHL trial of Awesemo.com you can use the promo code: POWERPLAYS.

A Quick Note…

The picks below cover the five game main schedule.

Full Schedule For Monday, November 26th, 2018

[table id=1057 /]

Prices are in DraftKings format unless noted. FanDuel prices will be included as well. New Jersey is the only team on the back end of a back to back and it is their fourth game in six nights.

NHL DFS GPP Plays For Monday

High Priced Shots

Mike Hoffman ($7,300) — The play becomes even nicer given the fact that New Jersey allows 4.12 goals a game on the road. It matters little who is net for the Devils, the chances just come fast and furious early in games. Hoffman has an 18 game point streak and at this point is almost plug and play to hit value. His FanDuel price of $6.200 is far more attractive and eight near their player average for price. It is okay to look to New Jersey for contrarian plays in this game as Florida has yielded 25 goals in their last five contests. Both top lines are very much in play here.

Matt Duchene ($6,600) — Duchene fired back into the scoring column over the weekend with two assists in a wild 6-4 affair against the Dallas Stars. He hit the net five times but did not score a goal. The New York Rangers are unusually stingy at home allowing just 2.15 goals per game. However, they do give up more than 34 shots per 60. Scoring chances will be there. However, it just comes down to execution. Duchene comes in at a reasonable $6,600 price on FanDuel as well. Mika Zibanejad could be used for alternate plays across the board as the first unit Ranger power play would be going against a sub 70% penalty kill on the road.

Alex Ovechkin ($8,000) — Ovechkin just rolls along and now has 17 goals on 87 shots. The Islanders will yield some chances and lately have resembled the team from last year more than this one. They gave up 20 goals over the previous five contests and Washington has scored the same amount in that span. Ovechkin is the highest priced forward on the boards on both sites (FanDuel price of $8.800). However, Ovechkin fires in at double digit FanDuel points in his last four contests, so it is hard to pass up on him in some form given the value plays on the slate.

Into The Middle

Anders Lee ($5,400) — Lee comes off as a sneaky tournament play for his power play prowess as much as his even strength play. His $6,400 price on FanDuel is not terrible and has topped 20 points in each of the last two contests. Yes, he plays on the second line but still gets top man advantage time. He still averages nearly three shots a game which provides a decent enough floor. The Islanders line could be a low owned stack on Monday night.

Jake DeBrusk ($4,600) — DeBrusk makes for a solid tournament play on Monday night against a Toronto team that yields enough chances historically against Boston. His $4,700 price tag on FanDuel may be even more enticing. The winger scored three times in his last four games and has ten on the season already. With Boston’s injuries. DeBrusk sees second line time and occasionally top line minutes as well. There are no real defensive pairings from Toronto that would scream shutdown alert here.

Kevin Hayes ($4,900) — Hayes popping in at just under $5,000 on DraftKings is amazing given his 11 points in the previous ten games. Furthermore, he is firing nearly three shots a game on net. With the man advantage time, the Rangers center sees well over 19 minutes of ice time a night. His goal potential is not high but his assist chances are. His $5,300 price on FanDuel is still reasonable and Ottawa does yield 5.4 goals per game on the road. This has some trap potential but the shots and chances will be there.

Throwing Some Darts

Frank Vatrano ($4,000) — Vatrano firing at just over three shots a night in the previous eight games makes this an easy dart. He plays top six minutes at even strength which helps and is priced at only $3,200 on FanDuel. That is like getting a near minimum priced player for premium minutes. No one knows what, if any, gas New Jersey has left in the tank after getting steamrolled in Tampa Bay on Sunday night. Vatrano has six points in the last eight contests and is third in scoring chances on the Panthers in that span.

Jesper Bratt ($3,800) — Bratt risks a lot but has been rewarded a lot since his return from a jaw injury. He has six points in his previous eight outings while averaging over two shots a night. He has cemented the second line into a decent scoring option for DFS players not looking to shell out on Taylor Hall nightly. Florida’s depth is lacking and their penalty kill is just 73% at home. Bratt sneaks onto the man advantage here and there because of his ability to get to the net.

Goading The Goalies

Again, our best bet with this slate is to simply wait for confirmations to come in. The problem lies in that there are only a couple confirmations and likely goaltenders so far. Morning skates reveal a few more but alas sometimes the wait can be right until warm-ups on a lighter Monday. Looking towards the lesser games tonight might actually pay off in GPP’s. Also, keep an eye on who starts for teams on no rest and some road opponents.

Florida is interesting because of who may start. It appears James Reimer will be the choice but just be mindful of any morning skate changes. Florida has one of the better chances to win tonight along with the New York Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist has been especially good at home allowing just over two goals a start. He usually faces over 30 shots a game at MSG as well. The Toronto-Boston matchup seems too volatile but maybe letting Frederik Andersen in a lineup or two is not a bad idea because the Maple Leafs have allowed 35+ shots in four of their last five meetings.

More starters should play tonight. Jimmy Howard carries value if he plays against a Columbus team that has been firing nearly 35 shots per 60 over the last several weeks. With the shorter slate, the prices come in so value in net is tougher to find.

More picks and choices will be available on Slack and social media later.

Best of luck on Monday! This will be wild.
