DraftKings and FanDuel NHL Power Plays, Monday 2/18

This Monday features a modest five-game slate in NHL DFS. First off, let’s remind everyone of the Votts media list and a few links to follow. Then, we dive into the Power Plays.

When you are making your teams, one needs to make sure your goalie is confirmed and starting. Sites like Dailyfaceoff.com, Leftwinglock.com, and Goaliepost.com are great places for information. Another great source exists in the form of team beat writers.  Jeff has created a list on Twitter @Votts_DFS  for all of the NHL teams, and a separate list of all the beat writers for you to follow, it’s a great tool and a necessity. The advanced stats that I use and reference in this article come from Corsica.hockey and naturalstattrick.com.

If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to contact me on our premium Slack chat, or you can hit me up on Twitter @ChrisWasselDFS.

NHL DFS GPP Plays For Monday

High Priced Shots

Matt Duchene ($6,700) — The play will be modestly owned no matter what. Duchene goes up against a Chicago team that allows 3.4 goals per game at home with a 73.6% penalty kill. The center has 31 shots in his previous ten starts and seven goals. Duchene figures heavily into the first power-play unit for Ottawa and a lot of the play channels through him, Mark Stone, and Thomas Chabot. His FanDuel price comes in at just $7,200 which is arguably underpriced. Nathan MacKinnon and Brayden Point highlight some solid upper-tier choices on Monday night.

Patrick Kane ($8,000) — Kane’s propensity to shoot the puck helps here. His production has been excellent all year — 35 goals and 52 assists in 58 games. Also, he has 40 shots in the previous ten contests and eight goals. Ottawa’s penalty kill is at 76% on the road and so they yield 4.25 goals per game on the road. Kane’s FanDuel price is $9,300. When a player has 22 real-world points over their last ten contests, their price gets this high. For the highest-priced winger on the slate, one gets an excellent floor and a great matchup. Alex Ovechkin gets some looks but Cam Atkinson carries some intrigue.

Into The Middle

Alex Tuch ($5,400) — Tuch is a risky GPP play with his DraftKings price but will have low ownership. He has just four points in his last nine contests. The FanDuel price is $4,200 which is quite low. Again, Vegas has had a tough time scoring lately and so has Tuch. However, he had six shots on goal and four scoring chances in his last game. Tuch showing signs of snapping out of his funk and going up against a Colorado team allowing 3.2 goals per game at home carries potential. Josh Anderson is a decent goal play for Columbus. He has five in his previous eight starts.

Pierre Luc-Dubois ($5,500) — Hell, play Dubois against Tampa Bay as a mid-priced GPP play. Why? He has consistent points and five goals in his last ten contests. The shot volume is a bit low but the Columbus top line should generate high amounts of chances. Centers are plenty and the middle class is filled with them on Monday night. Value abundant plays are all over the place. Dylan Strome is $100 dollars less and is still that on Fanduel ($5,800 compared to $5,700).

Throwing Some Darts

Adrian Kempe ($3,000) — Kempe as a cash or value play is good here. He has eight points in his last nine contests. Playing 15-16 minutes even with Jeff Carter back helps. He provides value by a fault on DraftKings and his FanDuel price ($4,300) remains in the value bracket. Lars Eller is a possibility also.

Oliver Bjorkstrand ($3,600) — Bjorkstrand plays against the worst of Tampa Bay’s depth and has six points in his last nine games. The $4,400 FanDuel price becomes tolerable. Pricing is absurdly low on this night in some cases so why not take advantage of it and stack around. Drake Caggiula is still just $3,700 on DraftKings for the Blackhawks.

Erik Cernak ($3,400) — Cernak plays nearly 30 minutes now on the top-four at even strength and has an above-average shot. His floor (29 shots, 15 blocks in last ten games) increased by a third in that time span. Therefore, even if points are not abundant, the value is. The FanDuel price remains under $4,000 as a bonus.

Goading The Goalies

Again, our best bet with this slate is to simply wait for confirmations to come in. The problem lies in the fact that it is a tough goalie night to choose from. Pheonix Copley expects to start for Washington against Los Angeles which carries some value on FanDuel but not DraftKings. Does one roll the dice with Tuukka Rask in net against San Jose? That confirmation has not occurred yet. Waiting till morning skates will prove to be wise and make sure Jonathan Quick is fully over the flu before placing him on your roster if you do.

More picks and choices will be available on Slack and social media later.

Best of luck on Monday! This expects to feature a lot of unexpected, slate wise.

The NHL Power Plays combines a lot of numbers to localize plays, especially on short slates this week.
