DraftKings and FanDuel NHL Power Plays, Monday 2/25

This Monday features a modest six-game slate in NHL DFS. First off, let’s remind everyone of the Votts media list and a few links to follow. Then, we dive into the Power Plays.

When you are making your teams, one needs to make sure your goalie is confirmed and starting. Sites like Dailyfaceoff.com, Leftwinglock.com, and Goaliepost.com are great places for information. Another great source exists in the form of team beat writers.  Jeff has created a list on Twitter @Votts_DFS  for all of the NHL teams, and a separate list of all the beat writers for you to follow, it’s a great tool and a necessity. The advanced stats that I use and reference in this article come from Corsica.hockey and naturalstattrick.com.

NHL DFS GPP Plays For Monday

High Priced Shots

Nathan MacKinnon ($7,600) — The play will be highly owned no matter what. MacKinnon goes up against a Florida team that allows 3.82 goals per game on the road while allowing 32 shots per 60. MacKinnon averages nearly 5 shots a game over his previous ten contests. Florida has won four of their last five but can nosedive defensively at any time. MacKinnon is just $8,000 on FanDuel which is not a bad price. This NHL Power Play bounced back in a nice way over the last week. Aleksander Barkov and Auston Matthews could be high-impact plays on Monday night as well.

Nikita Kucherov ($7,700) — Kucherov’s propensity to score helps here (100 points in 62 games). His power play production has been excellent all year — 11 goals and 28 assists in 62 games. Also, he has 35 shots in the previous ten contests and eight goals. Los Angeles’ penalty kill is at 73% on the road and so they yield 3.09 goals per game on the road. Kucherov’s FanDuel price is $9,300. When a player has 20 real-world points over their last ten contests, their price gets this high. For the highest-priced winger on the slate, one gets an excellent floor and a great matchup. Leon Draisaitl has been on fire of late even without Connor McDavid and Jonathan Huberdeau could have value against Colorado on Monday.

Into The Middle

Vincent Trocheck ($5,200) — Trocheck faced a long road in his recovery from a broken ankle but his return has seen some struggles. However, Trocheck scored a goal on Saturday and had four scoring chances with his three shots. It comes down to hitting the net more err the back of the net. The Florida forward is priced reasonably at $5,300 on FanDuel. Value for the center is good given his previous career production. Colorado gives up 3+ goals a game at home and Florida pushes the pace to high-event levels. It could be another Colorado-Chicago type of game. Nico Hischier is one to watch from New Jersey.

Sam Reinhart ($5,800) — Hell, play Reinhart against Toronto. At $5,400 on FanDuel, Reinhart becomes an even better GPP option. He fired five goals in his last nine games with ten points overall in that span. Again, Toronto gives up its fair share of scoring chances. Opportunities will be there. Do not be surprised to see Reinhart on the top-unit power play as well. Toronto’s penalty kill has slipped below 80% over its last 15 games. Buffalo and Reinhart could attack that well enough. Jesper Bratt at a mid $4,000’s price level surprised many over his last ten games. His point a game level of production could be a buy-low option.

Throwing Some Darts

William Nylander ($3,900) — Use Nylander as a cash or value play is good here. He has seven points in his last nine contests. Playing 15-16 minutes at center helps. His natural position makes a difference. Nylander drawing against Buffalo’s depth matchups could be a boon for owners looking for a cheap play. His FanDuel price is creeping up a bit at $4,600. Nick Bonino at $3,000 could make for a punt play.

Sam Gagner ($3,400) — Gagner is worth taking a risk on Monday night against Nashville. Increased ice time will help and he has five points in his last nine games. Goal scoring chances are moderate playing with Leon Draisaitl. If he continues to see top-line minutes, then Gagner becomes a must play. His contributions on the man advantage are well documented. Nashville’s penalty kill has not been so good lately (79% in the last 12 games).

Troy Stecher ($3,000) — Stecher plays 20-25 minutes a night at least until Alex Edler returns. His floor is basically Edler’s which means his points are high enough to play on DraftKings and even FanDuel. He may even have a chance at an assist or two here and there.

Goading The Goalies

Again, our best bet with this slate is to simply wait for confirmations to come in. The problem lies in the fact that it is a tough goalie night to choose from. Andrei Vasilevskiy carries an extreme chalk tag but Tampa basically has a 70-75% chance of winning. Keith Kinkaid may be a crazy all or nothing risk pick because of his price on Monday night. Does John Gibson return on Monday night? He is projected to start but Anaheim has not activated him off injured reserve yet.

More picks and choices will be available on Slack and social media later.

Best of luck on Monday! This expects to feature a lot of unexpected, slate wise. Remember, this is Trade Deadline Monday. Watch for players pulled from practices.

The NHL Power Plays combines a lot of numbers to localize plays, especially on short slates this week.
