DraftKings and FanDuel NHL Power Plays, Monday 3/4

This Monday features just a two-game slate in NHL DFS. First off, let’s remind everyone of the Votts media list and a few links to follow. Then, we dive into the Power Plays.

When you are making your teams, one needs to make sure your goalie is confirmed and starting. Sites like Dailyfaceoff.com, Leftwinglock.com, and Goaliepost.com are great places for information. Another great source exists in the form of team beat writers.  Jeff has created a list on Twitter @Votts_DFS  for all of the NHL teams, and a separate list of all the beat writers for you to follow, it’s a great tool and a necessity. The advanced stats that I use and reference in this article come from Corsica.hockey and naturalstattrick.com.

If you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to contact me on our premium Slack chat, or you can hit me up on Twitter @ChrisWasselDFS.

NHL DFS GPP Plays For Monday

High Priced Shots

Connor McDavid ($6,900) — The play will be highly owned no matter what. McDavid goes up against a Buffalo team that bleeds goals of late — 20 goals allowed in their last five games. When looking at power plays, DraftKings offers lower prices on Monday night. FanDuel prices increased in some cases as the center is up to $9,100. His high point potential is too much to overlook completely. It is not a full fade for the center. Auston Matthews and Sean Monahan are reasonable options.

Jeff Skinner ($6,000) — Skinner’s propensity to shoot and again lower DraftKings prices makes him a more attractive idea on Monday. He has 37 shots in his last ten games with only three goals. A positive regression seems due for a player shooting around 16% on the season. His FanDuel price is in the low $7,000’s which is not bad given the short slate.

Into The Middle

Mikael Backlund ($5,100) — Backlund found a way to score nine points in his last nine games. That includes four goals on his previous 27 shots. Calgary has an excellent matchup against Toronto and is averaging 4.1 goals per game at home. Toronto’s penalty kill is around 78% on the road and 76% on the road in the last 15 games. The second line will have the toughest matchup but could be a nice alternative as they generate chances too — including some short-handed.

Sam Reinhart ($5,700) — Hell, play Reinhart against Edmonton. At $5,600 on FanDuel, Reinhart becomes an even better GPP option. He fired five goals in his last nine games with nine points overall in that span. Again, Edmonton gives up its fair share of scoring chances. Opportunities will be there. Do not be surprised to see Reinhart on the top-unit power play as well. Edmonton’s penalty kill has slipped below 74% over its last 15 games. Buffalo and Reinhart could attack that well enough. Kasperi Kapanen has about the same point rate but a slightly lower shot and chance volume.

Throwing Some Darts

William Nylander ($3,300) — Use Nylander as a cash or value play is good here. He has six points in his last nine contests. Playing 15-16 minutes at center helps. His natural position makes a difference. Nylander drawing against Calgary’s depth matchups could be useful on Monday night. His FanDuel price is creeping up a bit at $4,800. Evan Rodrigues is a decent option at $3,800 on DraftKings. Slim pickings at the center position on this night will infuriate some.

Conor Sheary ($3,500) — Sheary has three goals and six points in the last nine games. His shot volume is up to nearly two a game which is about a 20% improvement over his previous 20 games. Fortunately, Sheary is low-priced enough where his risk is minimal at worst.

Rasmus Dahlin ($4,200) — Dahlin plays a ton and his price dipped down to value play. Also, the best part is the Buffalo defenseman has dropped to $4,500 on FanDuel. He tallied six points in his last nine games. Dahlin averaging around three shots a game provides a plausible floor. Jake Muzzin and Zach Bogosian indicate some value, especially on DraftKings.

Goading The Goalies

Again, our best bet with this slate is to simply wait for confirmations to come in. The problem lies in the fact that it is a tough goalie night to choose from. No goalies confirmed until the morning skate. That means there will be a wait for goalie picks. It appears Carter Hutton will be projected against Mikko Koskinen. As for the other matchup, Frederik Andersen expects to start against David Rittich. This makes for an uneasy night where one has to just pick and choose. Hoping for the best is the matchup with the lower-priced goalies.

More picks and choices will be available on Slack and social media later.

Best of luck on Monday! This expects to feature a lot of unexpected, slate wise.

The NHL Power Plays combines a lot of numbers to localize plays, especially on short slates this week.
