We have a Game-1 Conference Semi-Final matchup between the Winnipeg Jets and the Nashville Predators. As if this game/series will not be interesting enough, DraftKings and FanDuel are offering single-game contests tonight, so making a little money while watching a fun game can only make it more interesting.
The scoring system on FanDuel will essentially be the same outside of no goalie, but you will want (what you think will be) your top scorer to be in your “Captain” spot where you’ll get all of his scoring times 1.5. On DraftKings, Goals (8) and Shots on Goal (2) are weighted more than they are in the traditional scoring, but the faceoff bonus (0.2) is a little bit of a game-changer, making centers and guys who get a lot of faceoffs a little bit more valuable. Winning goalies can also score very well, which is similar to traditional scoring.
NSH2: Fiala-Turris-Smith ($17,300 DK/$27,400 FD)
The second line for the Predators should see the most time against the Jets’ second line which has the potential for a high-event matchup. In the regular season, WPG2 allowed 28.8 Scoring Chances Against per 60 minutes and 13 High-Danger Chances Against per 60 minutes. This Preds line was great in the regular season and that didn’t change in Round 1, as they posted a near 60 Corsi For Percentage against the Avalanche. For cheap on DK and getting power-play time, this makes for a nice 3-man stack that should come at lower ownership than the top lines tonight.
Roman Josi ($9,200 DK/$9,800 FD)
Josi was firing at will in round 1, attempting 10 shots more than anyone on his team (61) while creating 21 scoring chances, which also led the Predators. He had only two assists to show for those fantastic numbers, but he has as good of a point outlook of anyone on this slate as he’ll see near 25 minutes including power-play time on the 2nd unit. Josi is my top defenseman on this single-game slate.
Mark Scheifele ($10,900 DK/$11,400 FD)
Scheifele will likely see a matchup against the Predators’ top line tonight which was quite giving at home in the shutdown role, allowing 11.3 High-Danger Chances Against per 60 minutes on home ice in 2017-18. He had a rough time with faceoffs in round 1, but he won them at a 51.3% rate in the regular season and he should get as much ice time and face opportunities as any of the Jets forwards tonight. As the top center on one of the best lines in the NHL in a neutral matchup, I like Scheifele at expected lower ownership than his Preds counterparts tonight.
Nick Bonino ($4,800 DK/$7,700 FD)
Bonino is the best value on the slate for my money as he has a lot of good things going for him that most players near this price don’t. First, he is a center and will be taking a bunch of faceoffs. Second, he was dominant in the faceoff circle in round 1, winning 45 out of 69 opportunities (65.2%). Third, he plays on the second power-play unit and played at least 15 minutes in each of the final 5 games in the series against the Avalanche. He’s not going to lead the slate in points, but for this price, he provides a nice floor and makes for a good one-off.
Pekka Rinne ($8,300 DK)
Rinne is the favored goalie in Game-1 and at this price, he’s hard to pass up if you’re stacking the Predators. If this game is low-scoring and Rinne is able to get a win here, he’s going to be a guy that you’ll need in tournaments to get to the top of the leaderboard because of how much goalies score in this format when they win.
