MLB not treating you so well? Make your way over to some NHL DFS where there is still some money to be made. Here are some of the studs we’re spotlighting tonight on this fun 4-game all-day slate. Awesemo will give his take first, and then I (Tommienation1) will follow up with some additional analysis.

Top-Tier

Nathan MacKinnon ($7,000 DK/$8,300 FD)

“The Avalanche have the lowest total on the board, but this price is too low for MacKinnon a matchup in which he just had success.”

The results weren’t there for Mackinnon’s line, but they had all the chances to score goals in game one, playing at the highest pace of any line in the playoffs in their Game-1. His line posted 22 shot attempts, 11 Scoring Chances, and 4 High-Danger Chances. MacKinnon attempted 9 shots himself, and he should see the Bonino line for the Predators again, which is a neutral matchup. At low ownership in tournaments, give me some Nathan MacKinnon, who looked electric in Game-1.

Rick Nash ($5,300 DK/$6,100 FD)

“Nash had chances in Game-1, but now will get a Nazem Kadri-less Leafs 2nd line at even-strength as well as top power-play time tonight.”

Nash posted 5 shot attempts and 4 scoring chances but had underwhelming results for DFS in game one. He’s in one of the better situations on the slate tonight going up against the Kadri-less Leafs. Nash is one of the highest-volume shooters on the Bruins, and the 3.4 total suggests that there will be scoring to go around. Everything points to another huge performance by the Bruins, and Nash has as good of a chance as anyone to get in on the scoring.

Value

Kevin Fiala ($4,000 DK/$4,600 FD)

“Fiala is simply too cheap for being in a great matchup against the Colorado depth and with a 3.6 implied total for his team.”

Fiala is one of the more fun players in these playoffs that people may not know about. His speed and playmaking ability should make an appearance against the Avalanche today, as he plays on the one of the best posession lines in the NHL at even-strength and gets power-play time on the 2nd unit.

Ryan Kesler ($3,600 DK/$4,900 FD)

“Kesler’s team has a team total over three, but he was a problem for the Sharks in Game-1 and we can expect the same matchups again.”

Kesler will match against the Pavelski line for the Sharks, which looked like it went poorly if you look at the surface stats, but the Kesler line was much better at even-strength. Kesler’s line had 19 shot attempts and 8 scoring chances while only allowing 9 shot attempts and 4 scoring chances. Kesler himself had 6 shot attempts with 6 scoring chances, and he’ll be on the 2nd power-play in a huge Game-2 at home.

Sam Girard ($2,900 DK/$3,700 FD)

“Girard has played over 20 minutes in five straight games and we should expect that time, plus power-play time on the second unit today in Nashville.”

Sam Girard has been moved up to the 2nd pairing since the injury to Erik Johnson, playing 20+ minutes consistently. The key here is that he saw almost half of his even-strength ice time with Nathan MacKinnon, which is always a boost when you’re looking for cheap defensemen on DraftKings. As a $2,900 punt, it’s hard to find someone who will get power-play time and solid minutes, but Girard provides just that.
