DraftKings and FanDuel NHL Spotlight Plays of the Day for 5/3

2 more NHL games to talk about tonight, and as usual, the home teams are favored to win in both games. As always, Awesemo will give his take on each player’s outlook tonight, then I (Tommienation1) will follow up with some additional analysis.

Top-Tier

Viktor Arvidsson ($5,300 DK/$6,500 FD)

“Arvidsson is one of the top skaters on the board tonight playing on the top line and power-play for the Predators in what is expected to be another high-scoring game.”

This series, Arvidsson (“A” points grade) has posted 24 shot attempts, 15 Scoring Chances, and a team-leading 8 High-Danger Chances. The Jets surprisingly didn’t match the Scheifele line with Arvidsson’s line in Game-3, and they were able to have some offensive success creating 9 Scoring Chances and 5 High-Danger Chances. Arvidsson makes for a nice value on DK at $5,300, and on the road with a lot of the attention going to the home teams tonight with big implied totals, he should be relatively low-owned.

Dustin Byfuglien ($5,600 DK/$6,600 FD)

“Byfuglien should see huge minutes once again tonight and he mans the top power-play unit for the Jets as well.”

After a 9 shot attempt, 3 point performance in Game-3, Byfuglien (“A” points grade) makes for a great play again in Game-4. He has 23 shot attempts in the first 3 games of the series and played 27 minutes last game (which ended in regulation). I love the top line for the Jets as well, so Byfuglien makes for a great correlation play in tournaments tonight.

Value

Olli Maatta ($3,400 DK/$3,900 FD)

“Maatta has played 21+ minutes in each of the first 3 games of the series, and at this price and as a guy who likes to shoot, he’s a solid value.”

Surprisingly, Maatta (“A” DK and FD value) leads the Penguins this series in shot attempts (20) by 5 attempts. Everything lines up for him being a good play again tonight even though his price is still very low on both sites. He’s one of my favorite values on DK tonight and he’ll likely be the 3rd-highest owned defenseman on his own team tonight, with Letang and Schultz carrying more ownership than him in tournaments.

Devante Smith-Pelly ($3,000 DK/$3,200 FD)

“Smith-Pelly is playing on the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov tonight on a team with a decent road total.”

I’m not a huge fan of Smith-Pelly as a top-line talent, but this is DFS, and sometimes situation and price has to outweigh talent. He’s a good way to get super cheap exposure to Ovechkin and Kuznetsov, so in the context of a stack or as a cheap punt, Smith-Pelly makes sense in all formats tonight as long as he’s playing with some of the top skaters in this game.
