DraftKings & FanDuel NFL DFS Picks: Centers

Aleksander Barkov — FLA vs CLB ($6,800 — DK, $8,100 — FD)

Barkov represents a solid home GPP play on Saturday night against a Columbus team that will give up more shots on the road than expected. Florida is almost like “Team Fun” at home with a combined 70 shots a game very commonplace. The top-line center plays on one of the best lines in the league but they give as good as they get. So, if they match up against the Columbus top line as expected, then one may want to look at Columbus as well. Barkov averages nearly four shots a game in his last ten while averaging a point a game.

Again, there are some other intriguing options so let’s look below.

Lance Couture – SJ vs TAM – ($5,800 — DK, $7,300 — FD)

For now, San Jose is back to what they were last year. Couture has been on fire lately with six goals on his last 30 shots in the previous ten games. That includes a whopping 23 scoring chances. Despite this, one thing is missing. Couture does not have a single power-play goal all season. He has eight assists on the man advantage. That may change tonight against a very inconsistent Tampa Bay team. Couture’s DraftKings price makes a San Jose stack more palatable as well.

The good news tonight is that value can be found almost anywhere. Players are out there and pricing is soft in places but watch for some back to back risers. Again, remember, this is a nine-game slate, so take your time and take a long look at the slate itself. Even Pierre Luc-Dubois is a solid play but could be used as a one-off on DraftKings or Yahoo. Also, key in on some Nashville and Florida defensemen as they both have excellent matchups. That goes for their forwards, especially. New Jersey played last night and could be gassed early.

DraftKings & FanDuel NFL DFS Picks: Wingers

Nikita Kucherov – TAM vs SJ — ($8,000 on DK, $8,600 — FD)

Kucherov quietly is back up to 31 points in 25 games this season. That includes 18 of those in the last ten contests alone. Needless to say, hello Nikita Kucherov! Some of it was injuries and some of it was the Russian winger pressing a bit much. Either way, he is back with a vengeance and that makes Tampa’s offense and Brayden Point very happy. Thursday night was a bit of an off night from Kucherov with just one assist, two shots on goal, and one scoring chance. San Jose allows the fifth-most DFS points to right-wingers. Expectations are that of a bigger night on Saturday night as Tampa and San Jose could be part of a mini-game stack.

There are many ways to go on this NHL DFS slate. San Jose’s top line, the Aleksander Barkov line against Columbus and even the Devils’ top line are expected to be lower-owned on Saturday night. Also, one can go far contrarian with the Parise line versus Carolina just for some good chance volume. The emphasis is to not pigeon hole yourself on this slate as even the Flames are in a good spot against Los Angeles, who is not rested.

Calle Jarnkrok– NSH vs NJD ($4,300 on DK, $4,300 — FD)

Jarnkrok is again a very good option on Saturday night against the Devils. Remember the fact that New Jersey is one of the worst teams in the NHL on the road. New Jersey allows 3.83 goals per game away from home and has yielded 20 goals in their last five games. Jarnkrok, by the way, is playing on the top line now and has five goals in his previous nine contests. Overall, he has seven points in that span. He is still very cheap. Also, Jarnkrok played over 22 minutes in his last game and looked to get stronger as the game drew on. Filip Forsberg and Jarnkrok are quite a lethal combination together.

Also, choose wisely between players like David Pastrnak and Jake Guentzel today. It may be worth it to look towards Columbus. As for Pittsburgh, watch out for a possible trap even against Detroit of all teams. It is not to say Pittsburgh will lose but DFS traps appear out of nowhere sometimes. Guentzel may be a victim of less scoring chances than usual. Does one play him? On this slate? Yes. Just buyer beware.

Furthermore, if one does try the David Pastrnak-Brad Marchand mini-stack tonight then hedge with values like Grimaldi or Jarnkrok. The key tonight is wading through the crap to get to the gold.

DraftKings & FanDuel NHL DFS Picks: Defensemen

Dougie Hamilton – CAR vs MIN ($7,300 — DK, $6,100 — FD)

The Hamilton GPP play has been excellent all season, but with only seven points in his last ten games, FanDuel dropped his price to a very playable amount. That is the thing. Sometimes one just has to exploit value and again, this is a blatant case. Minnesota yields the second-most DFS points to defensemen in the NHL. It has been known all season and without Jared Spurgeon in the Minnesota lineup, the gates are wide open on Saturday night.

Also in the upper tier, Kris Letang and Roman Josi expect to be solidly owned again on Saturday. With the matchups tonight, even Mattias Ekholm and Aaron Ekblad both have some value and Ekholm is barely above $4,000 on FanDuel. Look for some noticeable price discrepancies tonight and attack the hell out of them.

Torey Krug – BOS vs COL ($5,200 — DK, $5,700 — FD)

Krug is an interesting case as he has fully healed from injury at last. In his last game, we saw more of the old Krug as he racked up seven shots on goal, four scoring chances, and yes a goal! Colorado allows the fifth-most DFS points to defensemen and will allow potentially up to 34 shots per 60. Their unblocked shots allowed from the points are among the worst in the NHL. Krug will get his chances again tonight and Boston rarely gives up as their three-goal comeback illustrated against Chicago on Thursday night. Krug and that Boston power play is too scary good not to at least look at tonight.

Look around for options tonight and watch for some line shifts along with yes “illness watch”. It just seems players are getting the flu easier these days.

DraftKings & FanDuel NHL DFS Stacks

FLA 1 – Jonathan Huberdeau – Aleksander Barkov – Evgeni Dadonov

There is nothing to expect but chaos from this group. They are one of the best in the league and one can stack against them depending on matchup too. They are ranked as the third-best top line in all of hockey for a reason. A guy like Huberdeau is averaging over 1.2 points per game in a calendar year. They have buoyed a top-five caliber power-play unit as well. Florida has a special trio here and goes up against a Columbus team that can get sucked into playing “FUN”.

SJ 1 – Evander Kane – Logan Couture – Barclay Goodrow

This is probably a risky one now BUT it worked just enough previously to warrant trying it one more time. Goodrow adds value to this stack because of his lower price. It helps defray some of the cost and Tampa Bay is a hospitable opponent. Tampa gives up over three goals a game at home and goals are expected plenty in Tampa Bay tonight. Game stacking here is a slight possibility with Tampa 2 even.

PIT 1 or BOS 1

This is an easy cop-out, but it rings true. Both are very good with defensemen kicker options available. For Pittsburgh, one can go with Kris Letang or even Justin Schultz. Boston has the Torey Krug option along with even Zdeno Chara for value. This is the kind of night where one can get creative without getting too cute. We emphasize again, watch out for the flu and late injuries tonight. It will make an impact!!!

As always, there will be more NHL DFS news via Slack chat and social media. Good luck with your NHL DFS contests tonight!
