NHL Power Plays: DraftKings + FanDuel DFS Picks | Feb. 27th

DFS Picks: Centers

Connor McDavid ($9,200 DraftKings / $9,100 FanDuel), A/C/A Grades

The NHL’s leader in points comes into tonight after firing off eight shots on goal against the Canucks on Thursday. McDavid is averaging over four shots per game and tonight’s matchup with the Leafs should have a frenetic pace. Toronto will be without Auston Matthews, which is only a positive for Connor McDavid. Over the last ten games, the Leafs have the fifth worst Corsi in the league, allowing the eighth most shots against per 60 minutes and are allowing the third most scoring chances against. I think both sides of this game are firmly in play tonight with a game stack even in the cards.

Nazem Kadri ($5,600 DraftKings / $6,400 FanDuel), D/D/D Grades

Kadri and the Avalanche will take on the Coyotes for consecutive nights, after a 3 – 2 victory last night. As the beneficiary of favorable matchups, he scored once while ripping four shots on goal. The Coyotes have no choice but to keep the Nick Schmaltz line matched up with the Nathan MacKinnon line, or they will get run over. Unfortunately, Arizona tried everything it could last night to swap lines and were still successful in the end. Not to mention, we will see backup goalie Antti Raanta, who has given up at least three goals in each of his starts this year. Kadri will get the same matchups tonight and should find plenty of scoring situations.

DFS PICKS: Wingers

Max Pacioretty ($8,100 DraftKings / $8,000 FanDuel), A/C/B Grades

The Golden Knights shook things up and moved Pacioretty to the second line alongside Cody Glass and Reilly Smith last game. In that small sample of playing together, the trio looked great. Any line that Pacioretty plays on is an auto-bump in production, as he makes everyone around him better. He’s an elite sniper with a great hockey mind and knows where to be at the right time. The Ducks are in the middle of a rebuild and they are surely going to have their hands full tonight. Pacioretty is averaging 4.5 shots per game and he has a great chance at the shot bonus tonight. The question is, how popular is too popular?

Patrick Kane ($8,300 DraftKings / $8,700 FanDuel), A/A/A Grades

Kaner is heating up and he’s logging a ton of minutes for a winger. He’s lit the lamp in three straight contests and firing off 3.5 shots per game. Jeremy Colliton has no problems double-shifting Kane to find an exploit in a matchup. The Red Wings have been pretty good at limiting chances in their own end, but their own offensive struggles are also worrisome. They rank in the bottom-five of all offensive metrics that we like to look at for NHL DFS. The Hawks will have last change tonight, which means that Colliton will be able to keep the Kane line away from Dylan Larkin and company, which is the toughest defensive line on the Wings.

It is worth noting that Detroit also has the third worst penalty kill in the NHL. If the cards line up the right way, Kane and company could find find success on the extra-man advantage.

Brendan Gallagher ($5,600 DraftKings / $6,400 FanDuel), B/B/B Grades

Gallagher’s production has been down a little bit but I’m not worried about it, as he is still getting pucks to the net. Since Claude Julien has left, we will see some changes to the Habs lines. We saw the reuniting of the elite top line consisting of Gallagher – Tomas TatarPhillip Danault, which has a ton of chemistry and a large sample. Together they carry a 61 CF% while creating 43 shots for per 60, 38 scoring chances per 60, 17 high danger chances per 60, and an expected goals of 3.33 XGF/60.

The Jets have a ton of firepower as well but the defense has been brutal. Over the last 10 games, Winnipeg ranks 26th in GA/60, 31st in SCA/60, 31st in HDCA/60, and 31st in XGA/60 at five on five. The Canadiens are going to get plenty of looks tonight and this game should have a ton of pace.

Vladimir Tarasenko ($2,500 DraftKings / $7,500 FanDuel)

Vladimir Tarasenko might make his debut tonight. If he does, you have to find some exposure on DraftKings at $2,500. Tarasenko is an elite sniper that can find the back of the net in a hurry. His price on FanDuel hasn’t moved at $7,500, so I wouldn’t advise playing him over there because we aren’t sure if he will make it back tonight or not. For the ones playing on DraftKings, Tarasenko can be swapped over to Nathan Walker at an even price point of $2,500. Walker will play on the second line in Tarasenko’s spot alongside Brayden Schenn and David Perron.

NHL DFS PICKS: Defensemen

Alex Pietrangelo ($6,500 DraftKings / $6,500 FanDuel), B/C/A Grades

Pietrangelo is just a rock solid NHL defenseman, logging over 25 minutes of ice time on a nightly basis. Not to mention, the guy is averaging over five shots/blocks per game while quarterbacking the second power play unit. With the Golden Knights changing up their lines, you can go two separate ways with their blue line. Pietrangelo has a rock solid floor and gets you consistent fantasy points, but if you’re looking to play the Knights second line with Max Pacioretty and Cody Glass, you might want to look at Shea Theodore. While he does have a higher ceiling, Theo may not have that consistency that Pietrangelo does. The is a lot more offensive minded and he likes to get pucks on net. The Ducks are going to struggle with the Golden Knights, so maximizing your lineup with a power-play QB isn’t a terrible idea.

Jonas Brodin ($4,300 DraftKings / $3,800 FanDuel), D/B/A Grades

After coming off the Covid-19 protocol, Brodin has played good hockey. The Wild have actually played great hockey, winning five in a row now. Brodin has been lifted to the top power play alongside Matt Dumba, who is also a play tonight if you’re looking for more of an upside play than a solid floor guy like Brodin. Jonas has averaged four shots / blocks per game while logging over 22 minutes since coming back from Covid-19 protocol. Getting top pp exposure is a nice addition for a value defender like Brodin.
