NHL DFS Picks: Center
Auston Matthews (TOR @ FLA) – DraftKings, $7,900; FanDuel, $8,800
Matthews and the Leafs continue their string play heading into the All Star break. Matthews has averaging well over a point per game pace with 22 minutes of ice time each night. He is also averaging over four shots per game while skating on the top line for the Leafs and top power play minutes. He should see the Alexander Barkov line most of the night, and Barkov hasn’t been the lockdown defensive player that were used to seeing. While playing with Jonathan Huberdeau and Evgenii Dadonov, the trio has allowed over 31 shots against, 27 scoring chances against per 60, and 12 high-danger chances per 60. This game should have great pace and sets up for a lot of offense.
Sidney Crosby (PIT @ ARI) – DraftKings, $6,800; FanDuel, $8,000
Crosby is a game-time decision for tonight and if he makes his way back into the lineup, it’s tough to tell if he will be in game shape. Given his price tag and line mates, I’m willing to take a shot though. Sid should be playing with Patrick Hornqvist and Jared McCann at even strength and he will play on the top power play with Hornqvist as well. The Coyotes started the year off as a grinding team that didn’t give up many shots and scoring chances, but they have gone downhill.
Over the last 10 games, the Coyotes have surrendered the second most shots against per 60, and they have given up the eighth-most goals against per 60 at even strength. Even though the Coyotes penalty kill has been good, you can expect a ton of chances for the Penguins tonight. Depending on ownership, pivoting over to Evgeni Malkin would be the correct play if he has lower ownership.
NHL DFS PICKS: Wingers
Stephen Stamkos (TB @ NJ) – DraftKings, $7,200; FanDuel, $8,600
Stamkos has been on fire, tallying 14 points in the last 10 games. The Devils have struggled to keep Puck out of their own net, giving up the second-most goals per game in the league. Over the last 10 games, New Jersey has allowed the third-most shots against per 60, and they have are giving up the third-most expected goals against at even strength. Stamkos and the top line of the Lightning will most likely see the Travis Zajac line, who has given up 34 shots against per 60 and double-digit high-danger scoring chances. Tampa bay’s top line is going to have a plethora of chances tonight and honestly, I think running it back with the Coleman line isn’t a horrible idea on this small slate.
William Nylander (TOR @ FLA) – DraftKings, $6,300; FanDuel, $6,000
Nylander has lit the lamp eight times in the past ten games, while collecting six apples. A Leafs power play stack could set you apart from the field tonight, as the ownership could be higher for this game. The Panthers and the Leafs have both struggled to kill penalties this year as they are both in the bottom 10 of the league. Over the last 10 games, the Panthers have given up the most shots against per 60 on the penalty kill, and they have the third-worst expected goals against on the penalty kill. This game has a great recipe for scoring on both sides and the ownership could make this game intriguing.
Blake Coleman (NJ vs TB) – DraftKings, $4,700; FanDuel, $4,700
Coleman has been on a mission lately, firing off five shots a game over the last 10. He’s also lit the lamp four times in the last six games. Playing alongside Travis Zajac and Nikita Gusev, the trio has been pretty solid. They are creating 40 shots per 60, 31 scoring chances and over 12 high-danger chances. They all play on a power play, but Gusev plays on the top unit while Coleman and Zajac play on the second unit. At $12,200, the Devils second line makes for a deep contrarian cheaper stack. The Lightning have been one of the best teams in the league, but they can still give up chances.
NHL DFS Picks: Defensemen
Tyson Barrie (TOR @ FLA) – DraftKings, $5,500; FanDuel, $5,500
Barrie is logging over 22 minutes of ice time and quarterbacking the lethal top power play unit for the Maple Leafs and I’m all over the power plays in this game. The Florida Panthers are giving up the most DraftKings points per game to opposing blue liners in the entire league. They have also struggled a ton on the penalty kill. This is a great matchup for the Leafs and the blue liners. If you’re looking for the second power play unit, then go to Morgan Rielly.Â
P.K. Subban (NJ vs TOR) – DraftKings, $3,900; FanDuel, $4,000
Subban’s fantasy value has hit the floor since leaving the Nashville Predators, but he can still flash upside with the shot and block bonus. Subban will see plenty of rubber tonight to get the block bonus, and his salary can’t kill you at $3,900. Subban is averaging double-digit fantasy points and I think he is a fine value tonight with a paced-up game.
