NHL DFS Picks: Centers

Nathan MacKinnon — COL vs VAN — ($8,700 DraftKings, $9,000 FanDuel)

MacKinnon has gone back to basics the past two games. That has worked well for him as he has 13 shots and ten scoring chances in that span. It culminated with a goal, assist, and eight shots against Anaheim on Wednesday night in a losing effort. Colorado had been in a bit of a scoring slump as a while so to see a three-goal output from the Avalanche was nice. Vancouver has yielded 21 goals over their past five games so chances should be there tonight. Both penalty kills are not very good, to say the least.

Pivoting to Elias Pettersson is a nice move tonight given Colorado’s penalty kill is a shade above 79% on the road. They still yield 33 shots per 60 on the road as well. Finally, Dylan Larkin against a tired Chicago team may be something to look at. Perhaps one even stacks Filip Hronek with him for some power-play correlation.

Ryan Getzlaf — ANA vs TOR — ($5,100 DraftKings, $5,400 FanDuel)

For now, Getzlaf has value because he is blocking shots — ten in his last three games. He generates just enough shot volume to have some value. Those blocked shots carry the DraftKings bonus potential which helps. If he provides any offense, that is just a boost as well. Getzlaf only has four points in his last nine games with 16 shots and 16 shots altered. Adam Henrique is around the same price and has six goals in his previous nine contests but his floor is more of a risk.

NHL DFS Picks: Wingers

Alex DeBrincat — CHI vs DET — ($4,700 DraftKings, $4,600 FanDuel)

For as good as Dominik Kubalik has been this year, Alex DeBrincat is starting to return to last year’s form at last. He has five goals in his last nine games with 30 shots on goal. The Edmonton game last night was another huge boost to his confidence. He fired six shots on the net with two goals. Also, Dylan Strome has six points in his previous five contests and could be paired with DeBrincat in some places as a very cheap stack again.

Keep an eye on this game. Like others tonight, it has an uncanny potential to surprise. Toronto-Anaheim is a crapshoot, but watch for Danton Heinen as he is the latest to get a look on the top line with Ryan Getzlaf. It could be a crazy night in Anaheim.

Max Pacioretty — VGK vs. WPG— ($8,200 DraftKings, $7,800 FanDuel)

Pacioretty cooled off a bit over his past three games but has three points despite just eight shots on net and five scoring chances. Playing without Mark Stone was a bit to get used to. However, he showed signs against New Jersey that red-hot Pacioretty may be back. He still has seven goals and 13 points with 40 shots over his previous ten games. He has a goal on three shots and three scoring chances against the Jets in their only matchup so far this season. Pacioretty and William Karlsson should have some opportunities against a porous Jets defense that allows nearly 33 shots per 60 at home.

To save a few bucks, look at Nikita Gusev, Conor Garland, and even Tanner Pearson. The Pearson-Toffoli connection is an intriguing one at least.

NHL DFS Picks: Defensemen

Colton Parayko — STL vs NJ — ($4,600 DraftKings, $4,900 FanDuel)

This is a good GPP play. Parayko is finally shooting the puck and hitting the net as many have told him. Think offense first then defense. He has three goals on 33 shots and eight points in his last ten contests. He only averages a block a game now but when one is over 3.5 shots on net per game of late, that matters less. If only the Blues would give him a little more leeway on the power play, just imagine the beast that could be unleashed. Parayko faces the worst team in defensive metrics since January 1st in New Jersey tonight. Expect more chances.

Also, consider PK Subban from the New Jersey Devils here. From the Colorado side of things, look at Ryan Graves. If one wants to spend up, Shea Theodore is solid against a Winnipeg Jets team that cannot stop much of anything from hitting the net. More options will be available via social media as lock draws closer.

NHL DFS Picks: Stacks

ANA 2 — Rickard Rakell – Adam Henrique – Jakob Silfverberg

This is more expensive than Anaheim’s top line but the top line at times is more of a defensive line. The second line is where the chances and the offense is. As we saw against Colorado, Rakell scored twice and Henrique was a force in creating space against Colorado’s defense. If Silfverberg gets going as well, this line is dangerous against a Toronto team that gets caught playing its own “fun” style.

VGK2 — Max Pacioretty – William Karlsson – Nicolas Roy

This is a nicer trio with Roy on it only because it knocks the price down to a reasonable level. Consider Pacioretty is the second highest-priced winger on average throughout the platforms. Karlsson drops to the middle of the pack while Roy is a punt play. One can use Shea Theodore here if money is available to decrease some risk. Furthermore, one can leave Roy then spend elsewhere on this night. There is another cheap stack to explore.

CHI 3 — Alex DeBrincat – Kirby Dach – Drake Caggiula

There is something sneaky about this line that is good and this matchup against Detroit with a speed line here could kill. Also, DeBrincat may see some power-play time against a historically bad penalty kill in Detroit (72% at home since January 1st). Detroit’s top line with subbing a Filip Hronek in place of Tyler Bertuzzi could also pay off on Friday.
