NHL DFS Picks & Stacks for DraftKings & FanDuel Lineups | Blackhawks & Patrick Kane 10/15/21

Fridays are usually travel days for NHL teams, which leaves NHL DFS with smaller slates. Tonight is no different, with a three-game slate on tap. When there are small slates like tonight, differentiation becomes key, whether that is by fading chalk or going heavier when stacking. This Power Play article will use Awesemo’s Premium NHL Tools to help dole out the NHL DFS advice to help with building lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel tonight. The Awesemo NHL projections and ownership projections are two of the best tools to utilize when constructing stacks and making the optimal NHL DFS picks. Let’s go position by position and pinpoint some of the top plays and stacks for Friday, Oct. 15.

NHL DFS Picks, Tops Stacks & Lineup Optimizer Plays

Center

Bo Horvat (VAN at PHI)

DraftKings – $5,300

FanDuel – $6,000

Horvat has been one of the most consistent producers for the Canucks for a couple years. He is a solid two-way pivot with a great shot. Horvat is also a good playmaker, and with a new line consisting of Connor Garland and Tanner Pearson, the trio should find themselves with scoring chances tonight. Horvat will benefit from avoiding the strong defense of Sean Couturier for most of the night. Couturier will match up with the Elias Pettersson line, leaving Horvat with the Joel FarabeeJames van Riemsdyk line.

Joel Eriksson Ek (MIN at ANA)

DraftKings – $6,100

FanDuel – $4,500

The Wild took the reins off Eriksson Ek last year, and he is proving to be a great two-way defensive pivot with playmaking abilities. It also helps playing alongside Kirill Kaprizov, the reigning Calder Trophy winner. Anaheim is in the process of a rebuild, and Vegas also thinks this game should be one-sided, as Minnesota is the heaviest favorite of the night (-164). All three of the Wild’s top line fully correlate on the top power play, so if full stacking, it will be necessary to get different elsewhere. Awesemo has the Wild top line projected as one of the best leverage stacks on the night, with a 11% leverage score. Eriksson Ek’s price on FanDuel provides more flexibility when making lineups.

Winger

Patrick Kane (CHI at NJ)

DraftKings – $7,500

FanDuel – $7,900

There is not much that needs to be said about Kane’s playmaking abilities. He played last year with a nagging injury for most of the year and still managed to pay his NHL DFS owners with 66 points in 56 games. He is a nightly contender for the shot bonus, and he has hat-trick upside. This game should have plenty of offense, as both teams struggled defensively last year. Some in the media have said that they keep hearing good things about Tyler Johnson on the Chicago top line. If Johnson can mesh with Kane and Alex DeBrincat, they could have dangerous firepower. The defensive side of things is another story, though.

Cam Atkinson (PHI vs. VAN)

DraftKings – $5,600

FanDuel – $5,400

The Flyers made a bunch of moves in the offseason, and one of those was getting Atkinson from the Blue Jackets. Atkinson is a volume shooter that will put a ton of pucks on net when he has the chance. He is playing on the third line, which is a good thing for him since he will see all the opposing depth lines. The motto last year was “play whoever is playing Vancouver.” Depending on Brock Boeser’s status, the Canucks could be in a tough situation tonight. Their depth lines are young and still unproven. It is possible they will take a step in the right direction this year, but that is yet to be seen. Atkinson will also get PP2 duties, which will only benefit him.

Defensemen

Dougie Hamilton (NJ vs. CHI)

DraftKings – $6,700

FanDuel – $6,500

Hamilton was one of the biggest moves in the NHL offseason. He brings a ton of offense to the Devils blue line, especially on the power play. New Jersey struggled on the defensive end last year, with only P.K. Subban as their most offensive quarterback. Hamilton can log big minutes, and he will facilitate the offense on the extra man advantage. The Blackhawks defense has been in the bottom five for a couple years in a row, and that is unlikely to change this year. Special teams-wise, the Blackhawks were in the cellar next to the Devils for the worst penalty kill.

On the Chicago side, Seth Jones ($6,400) would be a great target, as he is now the top power-play quarterback and the offense will run through him. He is another great offensive producer that loves to get involved on the forecheck. Adding Jones to a Blackhawks stack makes a lot of sense.

Stacks

Chicago Blackhawks 1

Top 2 Stack Percentage: 32%

Ownership Share: 25%

The Blackhawks top line will be popular tonight and for the right reasons. They have a ton of firepower with Kane and DeBrincat, and they fully correlate on the top power play. The Devils had the worst penalty kill in the league last year, and they gave up the second-most goals against on the kill. If looking to get separation from the masses, a power-play stack with Jonathan Toews and Jones is a strategy to get the full ownership down as a four- or five-man stack.

Minnesota Wild 1

Top 2 Stack Percentage: 21%

Ownership Share: 9%

Minnesota’s top line seems to be the early leader in leverage at 11%. The Ducks are in the middle of a rebuild, and they are trying to get a younger team started. That comes with growing pains, and it means they will be taking beatings. Although the Wild have the fourth-highest implied team total on the slate, they have the highest moneyline odds (-164). Kaprizov is a sniper that can light the lamp at any moment’s notice, and with the playmaking abilities of Eriksson Ek, Minnesota makes for a great leverage stack tonight.
