After a large Thursday night slate, there is a smaller five-game slate tonight. There are three teams playing the second of back-to-backs: Oilers, Capitals and Flames. They will not have morning skates. Make sure to tune into Awesemo’s Hit the Ice stream to get up-to-the-minute news. This Power Play article will use Awesemo’s Premium NHL Tools to help dole out the NHL DFS advice to help with building lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel tonight. The Awesemo NHL projections and ownership projections are two of the best tools to utilize when constructing stacks and making the optimal NHL DFS picks. Let’s go position by position and pinpoint some of the top plays and stacks for Friday, Nov 12.
NHL DFS Picks, Tops Stacks & Lineup Optimizer Plays
Center
Connor McDavid (EDM at BUF): DraftKings – $9,400 | FanDuel – $9,100
McDavid had the toughest matchup in the game last night against the Patrice Bergeron line. He still managed to fire off four shots and pitched in a helper. At his price tag he needed to do more, but he still had plenty of chances. Tonight he will get the direct opposite of the toughest of matchups. Buffalo started out the year as a defensive powerhouse but has come back to reality quickly. Over the last 10 games, the Sabres are 20th in Corsi, 21st in expected goals against per 60, 26th in goals allowed per 60 and 26th in high-danger chances allowed. Even though McDavid is on the hind end of a back-to-back, he only played 20 minutes last night, and he will surely find some success tonight.
Vincent Trocheck (CAR vs. PHI): DraftKings – $5,100 | FanDuel – $6,100
Trocheck is averaging a point per game to go along with a couple of shots on goal. The main reason to go here would be to have an additional stacking component for top power-play exposure. The Sebastian Aho line will likely see the Sean Couturier line, which is one of the toughest matchups in hockey. They can still find success through the power play, though, as the Flyers are spending almost seven minutes in the box per game and have the worst expected goals in the league on the kill. Outside of the Sean Couturier line being one of the best shutdown lines, the depth has been subpar. At five-on-five, Philadelphia ranks 21st in Corsi, 27th in expected goals against per 60, and they are giving up the third-most high-danger chances in the league. Attacking the depths of the Flyers is the way to go.
Wingers
Alex Ovechkin (WSH at DET): DraftKings – $9,300 | $9,600
Last night was a rarity for Ovechkin, as he was held without a single shot on net. The last time Ovechkin was held shotless was July 3, 2020. He still managed as assist but hurt fantasy players badly last night. Maybe the recency bias will take some ownership away from him tonight when people should be going right back to the well. The Blue Jackets have been dealing with injuries and COVID issues. Columbus has played the fewest games to open the season, as tonight will only be their 11th game. Their defensive metrics have struggled a ton, as they are bottom five in almost every advanced metric. Special teams-wise, it is a solid matchup as well, with the Jackets carrying the 26th-most expected goals against and the 12th-most shots against on the penalty kill. Look for Ovechkin to set up in his office and let a handful go tonight.
Ovechkin is rating well in the Awesemo expert projections and is popping in the NHL DFS lineup optimizer tonight. Check out all of Awesemo’s free NHL DFS picks for tonight in the DraftKings NHL cheat sheet and FanDuel NHL cheat sheet.
Patrick Kane (CHI vs. ARI): DraftKings – $7,500 | FanDuel – $8,800
Kane has been the one bright spot for the Blackhawks in a year filled with team drama and personnel changes. Through 10 games he has 13 points while averaging 4.8 shots on goal per game. He will log a ton of minutes if needed to, and he is no stranger to double shifting. This game could have sneaky shootout potential, as both teams have been awful defensively. Arizona has been brutal despite having decent metrics. They are giving up over four goals per game, and they have the second-worst penalty kill in the league.

Defensemen
Seth Jones (CHI vs. ARI): DraftKings – $6,600 | DraftKings – $6,600
The top four defenseman are all firmly in play tonight. Jones has been logging a ton of ice time, averaging over 26 minutes of ice time this year. He plays in every situation, but the focal point would be quarterbacking the top power play for the Blackhawks. With the Coyotes penalty kill being so bad, getting exposure to Jones makes sense.
Evan Bouchard (EDM at BUF): DraftKings – $4,900 | FanDuel – $4,300
On a short slate where exposure is going to be more focused, Bouchard works here. Most will likely try to stick to the other power-play exposure with Tyson Barrie or Darnell Nurse, so his ownership should be down. Bouchard has been a quality producer, with points in four straight. He is logging about 23 minutes of ice time nightly, and he has been contributing just under five shots/blocks per game. The drawback is that he is playing on the second power play. He also plays on the top unit in even-strength situations, so he will still provide exposure to McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
Top NHL DFS Stacks
EDM1 – Zach Hyman – Connor McDavid – Jesse Puljujarvi
After playing one of the best defensive teams in hockey, the Oilers get a very favorable matchup tonight. Buffalo has not been hard matching, but the Dylan Cozens line should see most of the time with EDM1. The Cozens line is a smaller sample, but what they have shown has been awful: 48% Corsi-for, 3.64 expected goals against per 60, 38 shots allowed per 60 and over 16 high-danger chances allowed. If they do that against McDavid and company, it is going to be a very long night. McDavid’s line has been extremely good offensively, with a 58% Corsi-for, 3.76 expected goals per 60, 42 scoring chances per 60 and 18 high-danger chances.
CHI PP1 – Kubalik – Toews – Kane – Jones
