NHL DFS Picks Today, Top Stacks & Lineup Optimizer Plays

Center

Connor McDavid (EDM vs. SJ): DraftKings – $9,000 | FanDuel – $10,000

McDavid continues to produce at elite levels. The pivot has 16 points in the last 10 games, while averaging almost 22 minutes of ice time to go along with 3.5 shots on goal. He is playing alongside Kailer Yamamoto and Evander Kane, who has been firing a ton of pucks himself (4.5 shots on goal/6 L10). San Jose has played a little better lately but their metrics have still been pretty awful. They are 31st in Corsi, 26th in expected goals against, 30th in scoring chances against and 29th in high-danger chances allowed. Even with McDavid most likely seeing the Logan Couture line, it is a plus matchup.

Sam Bennett (FLA at MTL): DraftKings – $5,800 | FanDuel – $6,300

Bennett has struggled to find the scoreboard with only one point in the last six games, but a date with the Canadiens can change that. His shot volume is still there, averaging over three shots a game. The line shuffling since acquiring Claude Giroux will help the depth all around and just makes Florida that much stronger. Bennett playing alongside Jonathan Huberdeau and Anthony Duclair has been pretty elite, with 54% Corsi 3.35 expected goals for per 60, 36 scoring chances for and over 16 high-danger chances. Bennett will likely matchup with the depth lines from Montreal as they try to contain Aleksander Barkov and the newly acquired Giroux. The Canadiens’ penalty kill has also been extremely poor, ranking 28th. Bennett will play on the second power play unit, while his two linemates will play on the first unit.

Winger

Kyle Connor (WPG vs. OTT): DraftKings – $8,600 | FanDuel – $3,600

Connor has been on a ridiculous heater, and his price is getting to egregious levels. He is only a couple hundred dollars cheaper than McDavid, but his production has warranted the salary. The sniper has 18 points in the last 10 games, and four multi-point efforts in the last five games. He is firing off four shots a game and will get the benefit of last change playing at home tonight. Ottawa has actually played pretty well over the last month or so but they are still in the bottom 10 of all the advanced metrics looked at for NHL DFS. The Jets’ second line has been a high-danger machine for a very solid 270-minute sample, with 3.38 expected goals for per 60, 34 scoring chances, and over 17 high-danger chances. This game is going to have a ton of pace and plenty of chances for Connor to continue his point streak.

Connor looks to be one of the better NHL picks today for fantasy hockey lineups. According to the Awesemo NHL DFS optimizer, he is one of the top projected plays. David Perron (STL vs. PHI): DraftKings – $2,500 | FanDuel – $6,500

Perron has been a beast over the last month, with 17 points in the last 10 games while averaging 4.7 shots per game. He is riding a seven-game point streak, with multi-points in four of the last six games. Philadelphia has struggled defensively and getting rid of Claude Giroux did not help. Over the last 10 games, the Flyers rank 27th in Corsi, 30th in expected goals against, 30th in shots against, 25th in scoring chances against and 26th in high-danger chances allowed. Philly has also struggled killing penalties over the last 10 games as well. They have the 28th ranked kill, and sit 23rd in expected goals against. Perron fully correlates with his linemates on the top power play unit as well.

Anders Lee (NYI vs. DET): DraftKings – $5,100 | FanDuel – $5,400

The Islanders’ top line found some chemistry over the past couple weeks and they have been playing very well. As a whole they are carrying over 50% Corsi, 38 scoring chances per 60 and over 16 high-danger chances. Lee’s shot volume has been low but he has put up 13 points over the last 10 games. The Redwings have been a target team all year and nothing has changed. The Wings are 29th in Corsi, 25th in expected goals against and 30th in high-danger chances allowed. Detroit has also had the fourth-worst penalty kill over the last month, with a 74.3% kill rate. The Islanders will get the benefit of last change tonight, which means Lee and his linemates will get the positive depth matchups. Given the full correlation and positive depth matchups, the Islanders could be a solid contrarian lower owned flier tonight.

Trevor Moore (LA vs. CHI): DraftKings – $4,100 | FanDuel – $5,600

The Kings’ second line sets up nicely tonight against the Blackhawks. Chicago is playing on the hind end of a back-to-back after a late-night win against the lowly Ducks last night. The Kings’ second line has been playing extremely well, even while missing sniper Viktor Arvidsson. Moore has been a solid source of production, with nine points over the last 10 games and averaging over three shots a game. Linemate Arthur Kaliyev will play on the top power play unit while Phillip Danault and Moore will get run on the second unit. Together as a line they have been ridiculously good, with 67% Corsi, 45 shots for per 60, 40 scoring chances and 16 high-danger chances. The Hawks have been decent defensively, but with them being on the hind end of a back-to-back they are going to give up more chances. Finally, the Hawks penalty kill has been struggling over the last 10 games, and it is potentially only going to get worse. Brandon Hagel led the Hawks in shorthanded ice time and leaves a big void that needs to be filled.

Defensemen

Mackenzie Weegar (FLA at MTL): DraftKings – $5,400 | FanDuel – $5,400

With Aaron Ekblad hitting the long term IR! Weegar figures to be in line for an expanded role with a ton of ice time. Despite not finding the score sheet in six games, Weegar is still averaging double digit DraftKings points over the last 10 games. He is skating over 23 minutes a game, while averaging over five shots/blocks per game. The Canadiens are giving up the third most shots against per game in the league and they are allowing the most goals against per game in the league. Weegar is an essential part of the blue line for the Panthers, and with Ekblad out its yet to be seen if Weegar will get power play duties. Even if he doesn’t, Weegar still offers exposure to the elite forwards to tally assists and plenty of peripherals.

Colton Parayko (STL vs. PHI): DraftKings – $4,500 | FanDuel – $5,200

The Blues lost Torey Krug to an upper-body injury and will have to shuffle lines. They practiced with Nick Leddy on the top power play unit but that might not last. Justin Faulk could likely assume that role as well. Parayko has been a minutes monster for the Blues, averaging just under 25 minutes of ice time nightly. He has chipped in a handful of points over the last 10 games and has contributed over four shots/blocks per game as well. Philly is in the bottom five of all the advanced metrics looked at for NHL DFS and Parayko makes for a solid mid-range play.

Josh Morrisey (WPG vs. OTT): DraftKings – $ 4,900 | FanDuel – $5,300

Morrisey continues to log big minutes and he will continue his role as the quarterback on the top power play unit. He is averaging over 25 minutes of ice time, to go along with 4.5 shots/blocks per game. The Senators are giving up the fifth-most NHL fantasy points per game in the league to opposing defensemen. If playing a Jets stack, using Morrisey as a fourth man in is a smart play.
