Last night was a massive 13-game slate, which leaves fans with a four-game slate on a travel day. Five of the eight teams on tonight’s slate are playing on the hind end of a back-to-back, which means there will not be morning skate news for a bunch of teams. As always, our subscribers should check in the Discord for line updates, as there is a good possibility that there will be a lot of moving parts for a small slate. Keeping an eye on news is imperative to succeeding at NHL DFS. NHL DFS Picks Today, Top Stacks & Lineup Optimizer Plays

Pierre Luc-Dubois (WPG at NYI): DraftKings – $5,700 | FanDuel – $6,700

Dubois has been a shot volume monster this year. Over the last 10 games, he is averaging over four shots per game while pivoting a very good offensive line. Together with Kyle Connor and Evgeny Svechnikov, the trio has 3.59 expected goals per 60, 54% Corsi, while creating 36 shots for and a massive 18 high danger chances at five on five. The Jets second line has a ton of speed and that could be a problem for the Islanders. Both teams are on the hind end of a back-to-back and there should be no shortage of chances from either side. Over the last month, the Islanders are 26th in shots against per 60 and 29th in scoring chances allowed, so look for some DFS goodness from this game.

Elias Pettersson (VAN vs. WSH): DraftKings – $4,600 | FanDuel – $6,100

Pettersson is a very talented pivot that can create his own shot. Over the last 10 games, he has had five multipoint outings and 14 points in those 10. The Canucks are getting last change, which means Pettersson will match up against the depth lines against the Capitals. Washington has struggled defensively over the last month as well. Over the last 10 games, the Caps rank 28th in Corsi, 23rd in shots against, 23rd in scoring chances against and 20th in high danger chances. Vegas assigned a solid 3.1 team total for both teams tonight, making it a pick’em.

Kirill Kaprizov (MIN at CBJ): DraftKings – $7,700 | FanDuel – $9,200

The Russian sniper comes into tonight’s game riding a seven-game point streak and gets one of the best matchups possible. The Wild will likely be the chalk of the night with only four games on the slate, but it is possible to find ways to get different elsewhere. Kaprizov has 11 points in the last seven games and is averaging four shots on net in that time as well. The Blue Jackets have been a team to pick on all year and nothing has changed. They just got ran out of the building by the Islanders last night with a score of 6-0. Columbus ranks in the bottom five of every advanced metric at five on five looked at for NHL DFS. Over the last 10 games, they are dead last in expected goals against and shots against at five on five. Sign up for some Wild, but just make sure you can get different with the rest of your lineups.

Anders Lee (NYI vs. WPG): DraftKings – $3,300 | FanDuel – $4,800

Lee looked like he was playing in 2020 again last night. Of course, it was also a matchup with the Blue Jackets, but he looked very good for the first time in a while. He dealt with Covid issues in the beginning of the year and the Islanders as a whole have been very inconsistent. Lee and his linemates Brock Nelson and Anthony Beauvillier combined for 17 points last night. They looked phenomenal offensively, dominating Corsi 20-8, and 15-4 in shots for and against. They also saw 16 scoring chances and 10 high danger chances. Both teams are playing on the hind end of a back-to-back so it is possible there will be more scoring chances than normal. The Islanders will get last change against the Jets, which means Lee will likely get positive match ups against the Jets depth. Winnipeg was able to hold off the Devils in a very close game-winning 2-1 last night. Winnipeg has struggled on the defensive end over the last month though. They rank 26th in Corsi, 27th in expected goals against, 25th in goals against, 25th in scoring chances and 31st in high danger chances allowed at five on five. The Jets have also been taking a ton of penalties but have been getting bailed out by goaltending. They rank 26th in expected goals against on the penalty kill and 25th in shots against. Both sides of this game have some good targets for tonight’s NHL DFS slate.

Noah Dobson (NYI vs. CBJ): DraftKings – $5,700 | FanDuel – $6,300

Tonight seems to be a correlating defensemen night, or paying for opportunity. Dobson started the year out slow but has since turned things around. He is playing almost 22 minutes a night and also quarterbacking the top power play. Over the last 10 games, Dobson is riding a four-game point streak, with points in six of the last seven games. Winnipeg is also taking a bunch of penalties lately, and with both teams playing on the hind end of a back-to-back, Dobson could get an extra power play run.

Jared Spurgeon (MIN at CBJ): DraftKings – $ 4,900 | FanDuel – $5,000

With the Wild separating their power play units up, Spurgeon makes for a great addition to a Wild stack. He is playing on the top unit, and also quarterbacking the top power play, which gives you exposure to all three even-strength lines. He is logging big minutes on the blue line, and over the last 10 games, he averaged just about four shots/blocks per game. Columbus has been a defensive turnstile and a great team to target against, and tonight is no different.

Top NHL DFS Stacks Today

MIN 1: Zuccarello – Hartman – Kaprizov

Minnesota’s top line has been very good offensively, with a 54% Corsi, 2.92 expected goals for per 60, 35 shots for and 11 high danger chances. The main attraction for tonight is the matchup though. The Jackets’ top line (Patrik Laine – Boone Jenner – Gustav Nyquist) have been pretty awful defensively. Laine can shoot the lights out, but he is unbelievably bad on the defensive end. The trio has a 45% Corsi, 3.25 expected goals against, 37 shots allowed per 60 and over 14 high danger chances allowed at even strength. Minnesota is going to be popular, but for the right reasons. Finding ways to get different is going to be extremely necessary tonight. Whether that is going with four mans including a blue-liner like Jared Spurgeon, or just stacking a power play.
