Not a lot going on today, so we’ll dive into some strategy for how to approach this slate.
The news
- Kris Letang skated yesterday and is expected to play tonight – though technically he’s a GTD.
- Ryan Dzingel got crunched into the boards last game, but did practice this morning. He’s also a GTD, but I’d expect him to play. Matt Duchene is out again.
- Preds are getting healthier – Subban and Arvidsson were on the ice this morning, but won’t play tonight.
- Hornqvist out again for the Pens.
Advice
- OTT2 and OTT3 are interesting options to pair with your COL1 stacks, especially with Dzingel getting the GTD tag. He’ll likely go under-owned.
- Letang also has the GTD tag tonight, which should lower his ownership. Pairing him up with a Pens PP stack is a nice pivot off the chalk COL1.
Slate strategy
This slate is interesting. If you’re going with the COL1 stack, that means sacrificing elsewhere. With Nashville getting priced up of late, there aren’t a lot of viable stacks available to pair with COL1. The BOS middle six is ugly and cheap; the OTT middle six has some cheap, high upside options; ANA3 works, along with CBJ2. I worry that with such limited options available for the pairing, you’re likely going to be competing with a lot of similar COL1 stacks tonight in large GPPS.
The right strategy might be to do a 2-1 pairing with COL1 to increase your odds of differentiation, or to add JT Compher, as part of a full PP1 stack.
Something else to consider: With COL1 as the late game, starting an hour and a half later than any other game on the slate, this is a great opportunity to use the late sway to your advantage. Drawing dead, or don’t have the nuts? Switch out a couple of your worst teams from COL1 stacks to NYI stacks or unique COL combos to differentiate yourself from the field.
If you’re not MMEing, can I suggest just all out fading COL1 and taking the other side of this game? Whoever starts for the Isles will be the lowest owned goalie on the slate, and hey, this is hockey, goalies steal games sometimes.
