Forward:

Max Pacioretty: Grade: A, Values: B, B

Going off the board a little bit here, but Max Pacioretty, and really, the entirety of the Vegas Knights forward group, have been creating a lot of chances lately – they just haven’t been converting them. Over the past ten games, Pacioretty has produced the second most High Danger Chances in the entire NHL, with 50. VGS3 had a lot of ice time last game, and Patches will get some PP time. I like all the Knights tonight, against a struggling Jets team with terrible home road splits, but Pacioretty makes for a nice one-off, with his lack of correlation to other players on the VGS top two lines.

Cheap options

  • The entirety of OTT2 (Smith, Pageau, Paajarvi) grades out well for Awesemo tonight, likely because of their deployment at home in a defensive shutdown role. They may line-match with CBJ1, which would mean decent amount of ice time. All three in the 3K range.
  • For stacking, you can get access to the elite talent of Nathan MacKinnon, Miko Rantanen or Gabriel Landeskog by throwing in some correlated darts, like Sven Andrighetto, Matthew Nieto, Tyson Jost, Matt Calvert or Alex Kerfoot. All these guys are cheap and should benefit from the Avs spreading things out.

Defence

Seth Jones: Grade: A, Values: B, A

Matchups don’t get much better for defencemen than facing off against the Senators. Jones is one of three A graded defencemen for Awesemo tonight, with the top value grade of the trio. Recently, Zack Werenski has been getting the most PP1 time for the BJs, but last game it was Jones who got a crack at the first unit with 2/3rds of CBJ1. With the shakeups in the CBJ lineup, were not entirely sure how things are going to play out tonight, but there’s a good chance he’ll get PP1 time again. Jones hasn’t flashed much offensively of late, but any time you’re getting 25-30 minutes on the top-pairing, that’s going to change. The Senators have allowed the most points to opposing defencemen this season.

Cheap options:

  • Filip Hronek is going to see his fair share of ownership tonight – he certainly did last game – but for good reason. He should see around 20 minutes tonight with the Red Wing’s trade of Nick Jensen, and he’s on the PP1. Hronek had 23 points in 28 games in the AHL this year.
  • At a similar price point, Samuel Girard has been getting 20 minutes a game and power play time for the Avalanche of late. He’s being deployed in an offensive role.
  • Michael Del Zotto continues to be a minutes eater for the Ducks since being acquired by the Canucks. He’s got a bit of offensive upside and he’s on the second pairing with Cam Fowler.
  • Rasmus Andersson might be on the Flames top pairing tonight with Mark Giordano. If he is, bump him up. He’s probably my favorite bare-min flier and he’s on the PP2.

Goaltender:

Contrarian options:

There are two pretty obvious contrarian spots tonight. The first is Senators goalie Anders Nilsson, who will back what’s basically a glorified AHL squad in front of him. Making matters worst, Nilsson has been shelled in his last two games and has lost 4 of his last 5. Still, no one is going to be on the Senators tonight and Nilsson has show a propensity for standing on his head from time-to-time (He’s beaten PIT, WPGx2, CAR, and TB this year). He might be worth a spot in a lineup or two with an OTT2 stack.

With ownership flocking to the Blackhawks tonight, as per usual, the recently hot Semyon Varlomov should come in at very little ownership. The Blackhawks have been hot fire this past month (see, Kane, 19 game point streak), but it’s going to be coming to an end at some point. I don’t mind taking a gamble on a goalie that’s stopped 66 of his last 67 shots.
