NHL Power Plays: DraftKings + FanDuel DFS Picks | April 10
NHL DFS Picks: Centers
Connor McDavid (EDM @ WPG)
DraftKings – $9,100
FanDuel – $8,800
The Oilers look to turn things around after getting ran over by the Flames on Thursday. McDavid has points in seven of the last 10 games, and four of them have been multi-point efforts. If Dave Tippett keeps Leon Draisaitl on that top line, I wouldn’t worry about the road matchup with the Adam Lowry line. They are going to get plenty of chances, as their offensive numbers are amazing. Winnipeg has played some good hockey over the last 10 games, but it has been taking a ton of penalties. Over the last 10 games, the Jets are spending 6:52 a night short-handed. McDavid will make the Jets pay if they take penalties tonight.
Sebastian Aho (CAR vs NSH)
DraftKings – $6,900
FanDuel – $7,600
The Hurricanes are another team playing a rubber match from Thursday. After their 4-1 victory, Carolina is tied with Tampa Bay on the top of the Central Division with 60 points. Aho has been shooting the puck a ton. Over the last 10 games, the Fin has averaged five shots per game. Getting last change means Rod Brind’amour can deploy the lethal top line in positive matchups all night. On Thursday we saw Aho match up with the Haula-Pitlick-Cousins line for 70%. Carolina’s top line isn’t as elite as it was with Nino Niederreiter up there, but Andrei Svechnikov and Jesper Fast are good compliments to Aho’s elite possession game. Nashville has been good at limiting chances but Carolina is an elite possession team and they can create chances off turnovers.

NHL DFS Picks: Wingers
Kyle Connor (WPG vs EDM)
DraftKings – $7,700
FanDuel – $6,700
Paul Maurice continues to shuffle lines in the hopes of catching up to the Leafs. Toronto sits atop the North Division with 60 points, while the Jets have 57. Edmonton is right on their tail though, just five points behind. Anything can happen when you’re only playing divisional games, with a month left. Connor has been a steady offensive contributor, leading the Jets with 21 goals. Getting last change against the Oilers has always been a positive thing because they lack any true depth when they stack up their top line. Over the last ten games, Edmonton ranks 27th in Corsi, 23rd in shots against, 20th in goals against and 26th in scoring chances allowed. After shuffling the top line up by moving PLD to the top line, they combined for three goals and four assists. They should get plenty of chances tonight as well.
Kevin Fiala (MIN vs SJ)
DraftKings – $6,300
FanDuel – $5,700
Fiala continues to put pucks on net. The winger is averaging four shots a game over the last ten. He’s also stuffing the score sheet with points in eight out of the last 10 games. Fiala was shut out last night against the Sharks, but he did have four shots on net. Fiala makes more sense as a one-off play as the Wild power play is all scrambled, and Fiala’s line as a whole hasn’t been a great possession line. But, Fiala will get time on the top power play and he has become more of a trigger man with his shot volume. Martin Jones will likely play for the second time in as many nights and if the wild can get pucks to the net, they could take advantage.
Joe Pavelski – (DAL vs CBJ)
DraftKings – $6,800
FanDuel – $7,400
Pavelski has been playing like a youthful Pavelski. The crafty veteran has at least four shots on goal in four of the last six games. When Roope Hintz is in the lineup, the Stars’ top line has been very good possession wise. They carry a 58% Corsi for with a 2.61 XGF/60. Columbus has struggled seemingly all year. They are giving up the fifth-most goals against per game, and they are allowing the fifth-most shots against per game. It doesn’t get any better for the last 10 games either. The Jackets are in the bottom five of every advanced metric we like to look at for NHL DFS. Keep an eye on Hintz news, and if he does go, the Stars’ top line is a great play.
NHL DFS Picks: Defensemen
Ryan Ellis (NSH @ CAR)
DraftKings – $3,900
FanDuel – $4,000
Since Ellis’s return, he’s averaging over 21 minutes of ice time. He hasn’t returned to a power play role, but he is still killing penalties. Before his injury, he was steadily $5,500 on DraftKings and getting him at sub-$4k is a great value. Carolina puts a ton of pucks on net and that just gives Ellis more block opportunities. Ellis will shoot the puck when the opportunity arises, and he’s not afraid to get in front of pucks either.
Kris Russell (EDM @ WPG)
DraftKings – $3,100
FanDuel – $3,600
Russell can help you pay up for your higher priced stacks tonight and give you some good value. He’s playing 20 minutes a night, while averaging just shy of four blocks / shots per game over the last ten. His ceiling is pretty low, but he has been a consistent shot blocker. The Jets play with a lot of pace and Russell will have extra block opportunities.
Filip Hronek (DET vs CHI)
DraftKings – $4,000
FanDuel – $3,700
Hronek could be a good super-low-owned defender tonight. Both the Blackhawks and the Red Wings have been pretty awful defensively, there’s no getting around it. Hronek is averaging 24 minutes of ice time over the last 10 games and he’s averaging almost 3.5 shots/blocks per game. The young Czech is also getting run on the top power-play unit. The Blackhawks are a bottom-10 team in the league in every NHL DFS metric and their penalty kill has been brutal over the last 10 games. If you’re looking to go with a contrarian Wings stack, adding in Hronek could pay dividends.
Top Stacks
Carolina 1: Andrei Svechnikov – Sebastian Aho – Jesper Fast
The Hurricanes’ top line has been phenomenal with a 60% CF, while creating 31 scoring chances for per 60 and 16 high-danger chances. Svechnikov and Aho correlate on the top power-play unit, while Fast will see time on the second unit. Carolina is going to take advantage of playing at the PNC Arena with last change. We will likely see the Aho line matchup with the Predators’ depth lines and with their possession numbers, it’s only a matter of time before they can find twine.
Dallas 1: Jason Robertson – Roope hintz – Joe Pavelski
If Hintz is playing tonight, I will have a share of this stack. The trio has been great over the last 10 games, tallying 12 goals and 19 assists. They don’t fully correlate on the power play but Robertson and Pavelski play on the top unit, while Hitz gets clean up duties on the second. Columbus has struggled on the defensive side of things since they lost Zach Werenski for the year, and dealt away David Savard. The Jackets are giving up the fifth-most goals against per game, and they are allowing the fifth-most shots against in the league. Dallas will also get last change and they will use the Radek Faksa line against the Jackets’ top line. That leaves Hintz and the Stars’ second line with the positive depth matchups.
Other stacks on the short list: EDM 1, WPG 1, WPG 2, CHI 1, TB3
