NHL Power Plays: DraftKings + FanDuel DFS Picks | April 27
NHL DFS Picks: Center
Ryan Strome (NYR vs. BUF)
DraftKings – $6,700
FanDuel – $6,000
As one of the biggest misprices on the slate, Strome is in a fantastic spot with the putrid Sabres coming to the Garden. For the year, the Buffalo defense is no better than 21st in any metric on a per-60 basis at five-on-five. Its penalty kill is slightly better in terms of goals allowed but still ranks in the bottom third in all metrics, including 26th in expected goal against. All of these things should benefit Strome, who is playing alongside the league’s best winger over the last month, Artemi Panarin, while also skating on the team’s top power-play unit.
It is unclear why his price has all of a sudden dropped on FanDuel, but the value makes him a great play in all formats. And as a top-six center in the Awesemo NHL DFS projections on both sites, the upside is definitely there.
Yanni Gourde (TB vs. CHI)
DraftKings – $5,600
FanDuel – $4,400
This is yet another spot where taking advantage of much lower price on FanDuel makes sense. While Anthony Cirelli has seemingly taken a step backwards, Gourde has taken advantage of the extra ice time, with more points this year in just 48 games than his 70-game total from last year. In regards to the matchup, gamers can’t ask for much better than the Blackhawks’ porous defense. On a slate with all of the league’s worst defenses, the Blackhawks still come in as the worst in high-danger chances against per 60 and expected goals against per 60.
Even in this great spot and at a great price, Gourde is coming in at less than 6% owned in the Awesemo daily fantasy hockey ownership projections. That seems extremely low all things considered and looks like a great leverage spot in GPPs.

NHL DFS Picks: Winger
Anthony Duclair (FLA vs. NSH)
DraftKings – $4,000
FanDuel – $4,000
Duclair seems to end up in the doghouse wherever he plays, but when the team has to burn the doghouse because it is ravaged by injuries, it’s time to let him run. With likely three forwards out for tonight’s contest, Duclair should continue to see plenty of run like he has over the last 14 games. In that time, he has put up 14 points and four multi-point efforts. To further the point of how much playmaking ability Duclair has, he also ranks fourth in the league in assists per 60 at 1.97.
Even though he has somehow still hasn’t found his way on the power play with all of this production he comes in as the best value on FanDuel, per the Awesemo NHL DFS projections and over 2x value on DraftKings.

NHL DFS Picks: Defensemen
Ivan Provorov (PHI vs. NJ)
DraftKings – $6,300
FanDuel – $6,300
Finding highly projected defensemen at low ownership is extremely difficult in NHL DFS, but Provorov seems to fit the bill. With Awesemo’s NHL DFS ownership projections showing less than 6% ownership on both sites, leveraging the field is easy. On top of that, the matchup is perfect; there is not a worse penalty kill in the league, and it’s not even close. Thwarting under 70% of the opposition’s power-play chances and holding the league’s worst expected goals against and goals against per 60 combo should raise the ceiling for Provorov.
The ownership is too low considering the matchup and the goal total. Philadelphia has been the laughingstock of the league, but New Jersey isn’t far behind and should be attacked.

Top Stacks
PHI1: Giroux – Couturier – Voracek
On these larger slates, gamers can focus more on top-two stack percentages, as leveraging the field can be done easily with a plethora of filler options. With over a 10% chance on both DraftKings and FanDuel to be a top-two stack, and positive leverage to boot, Philadelphia’s top line is the line du jour. Even though this line has only been together a handful of games, it has put up very good metrics at all strengths, including a 65% Corsi-for in just 108 minutes. New Jersey’s defense, and penalty kill especially, is all one can ask for in a matchup, as it gives up opportunities by the dozen.
Top Value Stacks: FLA1, CHI1
