Tuesday slates have been no more than six games for the past few weeks, but there is an intriguing nine-gamer today for NHL DFS. Also in a rare occurrence, Toronto, Edmonton or Colorado are not on this slate of games, which should make for for more spread-out plays and fewer theory decisions to be made. Be sure to check out Awesemo’s expert NHL fantasy point projections, ownership projections and Top Stacks tool for industry-leading data to help build your lineups. NHL Power Plays: DraftKings + FanDuel DFS Picks | April 6
NHL DFS Picks: Center
Roope Hintz (DAL vs. CHI)
DraftKings — $6,100
FanDuel — $6,000
Hintz’s price has gradually gotten up to $6,000 on each site, but it’s absolutely warranted and may continue to rise after a matchup with the defensively challenged Blackhawks. On the year Hintz is averaging 2.05 points per 60, which ranks above players like Patrice Bergeron and Brock Boeser. That number is likely to go up with the Blackhawks’ continual lack of defense, which has ranked dead last in nearly every category over the last month of the season and second-to-last over the last 10 in goals against per 60 on the penalty kill. Hintz, if healthy, will see plenty of ice time on what is arguably the team’s top line and power-play unit. The situation in Dallas is a bit annoying, but if there is a game-time decision tag it, will help keep the ownership in check, which in large-field GPPs could be pivotal considering Hintz’s upside.
Others: Tomas Hertl, Yanni Gourde
NHL DFS Picks: Wingers
Eeli Tolvanen (NSH vs. DET)
DraftKings — $4,600
FanDuel — $4,800
This isn’t just about the opportunity Tolvanen has gotten with Filip Forsberg out on the Nashville top line. Tolvanen has started to step into the light scouts expected over the course of the year, with 18 points over the last 22 games and 10 over the last eight. The Nashville coaching staff recognized his offensive abilities by putting him on the top power-play unit early in the year, and that should continue to pay off here against a Red Wings team that has struggled keeping teams off the scoreboard when they go to the box, coming in 26th in goals against per 60 and middle of the pack or worse in all other metrics. With his price tag, you Tolvanen can be played in all formats for NHL DFS.
Others: Timo Meier, Ondrej Palat

NHL DFS Picks: Defense
Matt Grzelcyk (BOS vs. PHI)
DraftKings — $5,100
FanDuel — $4,300
It is unclear why FanDuel refuses to price up Grzelcyk, but until they do, do not stop playing him, especially in a nice matchup such as this. On DraftKings he is more appropriately priced for his top power-play role and significant ice time since returning from injury, but that will also lead to less ownership with the field running him out just 3% of the time per Awesemo’s ownership projections. The Flyers have struggled all year defensively, more exclusively at goalie, but the numbers still bare out their issues coming the bottom third of the league at all strengths in expected goals against. Even though Grzelcyk is largely dependent on points, he has also shown a very nice floor over the last 13 games, hitting the 3x mark in nine of those contests.
Others: Mattias Ekholm, Esa Lindell
Top Goalie
Mackenzie Blackwood (NJ vs. BUF)
DraftKings — $8,000
FanDuel — $6,800
After a lull in production coming back from the COVID break the Devils partook in, Blackwood (including Scott Wedgewood if he starts) has regained good form (.900 save percentage in six of eight) and now gets a plus-matchup against the league’s worst team in Buffalo. On top of being a favorite at home, he comes in as the third-cheapest goaltender on FanDuel, which makes him viable in all formats. New Jersey is far from good defensively, which should also secure a nice floor. And with the lack of quality on the other side, it’s more than reasonable to expect a big number in NHL DFS.
Top Stacks
PIT1
Bryan Rust – Sidney Crosby – Jake Guentzel
The Penguins top line needs to garner attention, with positive leverage on both sites and the top two stack percentage as well per Awesemo’s Top Stack Tool. On a nine-game slate with no clear-cut priorities, getting over the field may be even easier than Awesemo projects, at around 20%. The Rangers have turned the corner defensively this year, but as a fully correlated line on a big slate, it is possible to maximize ceiling and profits if they carry on as they have.
TB2
Anthony Cirelli – Alex Killorn – Steven Stamkos
At a tag much cheaper than other top lines, at under $18,000 on both sites and gaining positive leverage on DraftKings, this line makes for a nice filler. It is not one to worry about ownership either, with projected ownership well under 10% on both sites per the Top Stacks Tool. Columbus is a well-coached team but still doesn’t have the depth to matchup with the Lightning. With three balanced lines for Tampa, the Blue Jackets will not be able to hard match, which should equate to chances.
