There are five games for Friday’s NHL DFS slate on both DraftKings and FanDuel, with a few lopsided matchups and a handful of tight ones per the oddsmakers. Thankfully, all of them have some nice plays, which is always crucial on these smaller slates . As usual, I’ll use Awesemo’s industry leading NHL DFS projections, daily fantasy hockey ownership projections and Top Stacks Tool to help find the optimal NHL DFS picks for daily fantasy hockey lineups tonight.
Getting the latest news is crucial in any sport, but especially in NHL. Pregame skate changes and scratches are the norm for today’s game, and there’s no better way to get that news than to join our premium slack channel.

NHL Power Plays: DraftKings + FanDuel DFS Picks | April 23
NHL DFS Picks: Center
Mikael Granlund (NSH vs. CHI)
DraftKings – $4,200
FanDuel – $5,700
Granlund apparently enjoys playing against the Blackhawks and will do so again for the third straight slate. In the first two meetings of this three-game set, Granlund has posted 4 points and over 20 minutes of ice time in each contests. Even though he has been a continual letdown for let’s face it most of his career, he still has the ability to put up big games when he’s aggressive or facing a very poor defensive team. Chicago refuses to be responsible on the defensive end, ranking in the bottom third of the league in near every defensive metric known to man. At just $4,200 on DraftKings, there should be some popularity, with an NHL DFS ownership projection of 16%, but on FanDuel he projects for sub-10% ownership, which makes him an easy spot to leverage.

NHL DFS Picks: Winger
Dominik Kubalik (CHI vs. NSH)
DraftKings – $4,700
FanDuel – $4,700
No matter the line, Kubalik continues to shoot. This is obviously very good for NHL DFS, even if it’s not always the best for actual hockey, as the Blackhawks coaching staff seems to not always agree with this chuck-it style. On the year, Kubalik has 131 shots on goal in 47 games while averaging just over 15 minutes on the ice. He is tied for 30th in both goals and shot rate, with some positive regression likely to come with the lowest points-per-60 rate of anyone with those qualifications. On FanDuel, Kubalik is just too cheap and is a great play in all formats. On DraftKings he is more appropriately priced but always a great candidate for the shots bonus, according to the Awesemo NHL DFS projections.

NHL DFS Picks: Defense
Ryan Ellis (NSH vs CHI)
DraftKings – $4800
FanDuel – $3,900
The price and value on FanDuel are just too hard to ignore in this spot for Ellis. He sees too much ice time and gets too good of a matchup to not be prioritized here. On the year, Ellis has played less than 20 minutes twice, so the floor is obviously there, and going up against the Blackhawks means the ceiling is also there. Awesemo’s NHL DFS projections have him at nearly a 3x value on FanDuel (11.93), so he is approaching lock status.
Others: Mike Reilly, Adam Fox, Rasmus Dahlin
Top Stacks
BOS1: Marchand – Bergeron – Pastrnak
There is a quite a stark difference between the two sites with this line, but on DraftKings it’s pretty clear cut this is the place to go with regularity. With leverage more than triple any other line on the slate and ownership projected at just 14% per the top stacks tool, it’s not a tough ask to get over the field. On a five-game slate, it is necessary to get deep into the depth chart, and using this line naturally forces that on either site, but even more so at their huge price tags on DraftKings. Brad Marchand is having a career year and may once again be the key to this line’s chances of being in the optimal as its lowest-owned piece.
LA1: Brown – Kopitar – Iafallo
Because FanDuel is refusing to price up anyone, including the perfection line in Boston, locking in other places for differentiation will be a necessity. As a fully correlated line at a good price, this spot sets up nicely for the Kings top line going up against the streaking Wild. The Kings are fortunately catching Minnesota on the back end of a back-to-back at home, which should help them get the advantage in line matching and speed on the ice. With positive leverage on both sites and a very generous tag, they would be the preferred option of the less expensive top lines.
