Power Plays: NHL DFS Picks & Top Stacks for DraftKings + FanDuel with Mika Zibanejad | 4/13/21

The trade deadline has officially passed, which could put some players whose names were on the block at ease now knowing they are most likely staying put. There are a few of those said players on today’s six-game slate that looks to be set up with a few very popular spots. As a nice change, there is only one team on this slate on a back-to-back, with Toronto coming off a road loss to Montreal. As the season has carried on past the halfway point, the contests have taken a dip on both DraftKings and FanDuel. Still, there is plenty to play for, so let’s find some winning NHL DFS picks for the slate on Tuesday, April 13.

As always, I’ll be using Awesemo’s Industry-leading projections and Top Stacks Tool to help me make decisions and break down the slate from a DFS standpoint. NHL Power Plays: DraftKings + FanDuel DFS Picks | April 13

NHL DFS Picks: Centers

Mika Zibanejad (NYR at NJ)

DraftKings – $7,100

FanDuel – $7,700

When a player is having a whirlwind season like Zibanejad is, it makes them hard to project for NHL DFS, but it also makes them an excellent play in GPPs. In this matchup with the New Jersey Devils, gamers can compound that ceiling game with a great power-play matchup against a unit ranking in the bottom third of the league in all penalty-kill metrics. For the year, Zibanejad has 32 points, with 12 of those coming in two games, which is a bit alarming but also speaks again to that ceiling.

With his ownership projected under 15% by Awesemo on both DraftKings and FanDuel, Zibanejad also makes for a great leverage play against the four other centers owned above him. It’s a big price to pay as a one-off or for cash, but for GPP purposes, he’s always a great option.

NHL DFS Picks: Wingers

Brad Marchand (BOS vs. BUF)

DraftKings – $8,100

FanDuel – $7,900

This is the quintessential spot for Marchand, as he gets to pick on the inexperienced and lesser-talented Sabres. Marchand has always been what he is, but never has he done it with quite this kind of production — especially in relation to his teammates. He is outscoring his teammates on a per-game basis, with 48 points in just 37 games. Per Awesemo’s projections and ownership projections, Marchand is landing right in line with his pricing as the third highest in all three categories on both sites, per his position.

It will be a surprise if Marchand is as heavily owned as either Patrice Bergeron or David Pastrnak, as he is often left off because of the community’s disdain. But even if his ownership is up there, it’s a fantastic spot for Marchand.

Joel Farabee (PHI at WSH)

DraftKings – $4,300

FanDuel – $4,400

Similarly to Zibanejad up top, Farabee has packed a lot of production into a concentration of games, with eight multi-point efforts in 40 games played. Playing on the top line for the bulk of the year has meant a nice minutes floor, with more than 16 minutes per game while also skating on the team’s second power-play unit. This top-line play has also led to nice individual numbers, with a Corsi-for of 51.7% and offensive-zone shift starts just under 55%. At his low price tag and projected ownership below 5% on each site, Farabee is a nice play in all formats, especially on FanDuel.

NHL DFS Picks: Defense

Mike Reilly (BOS vs. BUF)

DraftKings – $2,700

FanDuel – $4,000

There is nothing quite like being traded to a contender and being thrust onto the team’s top power-play unit. Reilly has been the very fortunate benefactor of this year’s deadline moves, heading to Boston for a draft pick. Having the best year of his career with 19 points in 40 games, Reilly will still have something to prove and be able to showcase what he can do with Matt Grzelcyk out for the time being. It was first believed that Jack Ahcan was going to be quarterbacking the top power-play unit, so ownership also may be low relative to what we should expect for those not following news and line updates. Regardless, even if ownership does take a jump, on DraftKings he is a near must-play in cash and GPPs at $2,700.

Top Stacks

BOS1

Due to a very large tag, this line is not getting near the ownership it should be, especially on DraftKings, with a leverage percentage at nearly 18%, per Awesemo’s Top Stacks Tool. Buffalo has all but shipped it in this year, so the only concern could be the Bruins rolling lines once they are up three goals, but this line may be responsible for all three. The ownership absolutely does not meet the top-two projection on either site and should be taken advantage of on a smaller slate.
