Let’s get into it.
Boone Jenner: Columbus Blue Jackets. Grade: A, DraftKings value: A, FanDuel value: A
The former 30-goal scorer is off to a slow start this season, but he’s still getting minutes and opportunity. At $4300 on FD and $4500 on DraftKings, he’s just too cheap. Jenner is skating on the Jackets third-line with an underrated Riley Nash-Josh Anderson combination, though, instead of stacking, I prefer throwing Jenner into lineups as a one-off, with his current role on the Blue Jackets PP1. Thus far he’s been the victim of an 5% on-ice sh% and a .920 sv% against. He’s averaging a 62% HDCF this season.
Oscar Klefbom, Edmonton Oilers. Grade: A, DraftKings value: A, FanDuel value: A
A mid-4000s salary for a defenceman playing 27-30 minutes lately, who’s on the PP1? Sign me up. The Oilers have a surprisingly low 2.9 total tonight against the Penguins (probably due to their terrible roster), but with such a concentrated offence at the top, Klefbom is still viable. He’ played 20 minutes last game with the Oilers top-line and 15 minutes the game before that. Consider stacking him with the Oilers PP1. His underlying offensive numbers aren’t great, but the opportunity and price more than makes up for it.
Erik Gustafsson, Chicago Blackhawks, Grade: C, FanDuel value: A
One thing to look for early in the season is players who have created a lot of chances, but have also registered a low on-ice shooting percentage/high save percentage against. Gustafsson ticks both those boxes, with 104 on-ice scoring chances for this season, and a .942 save percentage against. He’s skating a lot with CHI1 and is on the PP1. So far this season, the Ducks metrics have been among the worst in the NHL. They have a league-worst 40% CF. He’s a little to rich for my blood on DK, but makes for a nice value play on FanDuel.
Juuse Saros, Nashville Predators. Grade: A, DraftKings Value: A, FanDuel value: A
Despite the Sharks magnificent underlying metrics, they only have a 2.6 implied total tonight, on the road in Nashville. Part of that is because of Saros’ recent hot play. Once ranked as Corey Pronman’s #1 goalie prospect outside the NHL, Saros has taken over the starting duties from Pekka Rinne (injury). So far this season, he’s 4-0 with a 1.45 GAA and a .945 sv%. You’ll likely get him a lowish ownership, given the stature of the Predators opponent this evening.
