Top Stacks: NHL DFS Picks for DraftKings + FanDuel | 1/16/21

The 2021 NHL season is officially underway. Like many sports, the easiest way to maximize your ceiling is through stacking, and that couldn’t be any truer in hockey. For reference, each goal averages 1.7 assists. In this article I’ll help you find the best stacks and NHL DFS picks to make for DraftKings and FanDuel fantasy hockey lineups using Awesemo’s Top Stack Tool.

Top Stack: NYI1

The battle of New York is back on our NHL DFS slate again after an off day, and it looks just as sweet as it did the first time. The Islanders top line put up three goals and two assists against the defensively inept Rangers in the first meeting.

Leading the way is Mathew Barzal, who logged over 20 minutes of ice time on opening night. The younger center loves to force the pace and create opportunities for his linemates with rebounds and slot passes. Winger Anders Lee is often a benefactor of those rebounds and cashed in twice on Wednesday scoring from in close. The last piece of the line is Jordan Eberle, who also got a goal last game. The well-rounded forward supplements the strengths of the previously mentioned very well with his ability to both shoot and pass.

This line dominated last time out with 75% high-danger chances for and over 70% Corsi-for. If they can take advantage of the Rangers lack of discipline (18 penalty minutes in first meeting), they’ll have a field day again with all on the top power play as well.

Under-Owned Stack: ANH1

After nearly upsetting the Golden Knights, the spot looks good again here for the Anaheim top line to go under the radar. As the only team under 5% owned in the top 16 of the top-two stack percentage, you can plug them in with anyone.

It’s not often teams take their best weapons and put them on the same line, but the Ducks have done that here. Rickard Rakell is the most talented of the bunch and will be asked to carry the scoring most nights. That said, Adam Henrique is a good crease presence who does well agitating and cleaning up misses. Swedish national Jakob Silfverberg is another well-rounded forward who will effectively shoot or pass when called upon.

I like this line a lot for NHL DFS because it’s cheap on all sites and has plenty of upside. They controlled whichever line the Golden Knights threw at them Thursday, with nearly 70% of the chances for. After coming up empty on the scoreboard the first time out, I’d expect them to get rewarded for the efforts tonight.
