Josh Jacobs Over 2.5 Receptions -143 (DraftKings) Â
We close out Week 2 of the NFL on Monday Night with the Saints traveling to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders. Both teams were able to start the year with a win and will look to make it 2-0 tonight. Currently the spread sits with New Orleans as a 4-point road favorite and an over under sitting around 48.5 points. For the Raiders to grab a win against the Saints, they will need to lean on their big-time players, and that means Josh Jacobs.
In Week 1 the Raiders drew a great matchup with Carolina, and Jacobs was a big beneficiary. He logged 25 carries for 93 yards and added in four receptions for 46 through the air, which was a welcomed site. That is where I focus my attention tonight with Jacobs’ reception total sitting at 2.5. Given what we saw last year, normally I would think this prop would go under, but after Week 1 I am ready to take a position over this total. Jacobs was adamant he would be more of a factor in the passing game, and through one week that certainly was the case.
Last week Jacobs saw six targets, which is the type of volume we want to see tonight when betting this prop. He never had more than five targets in any game in 2019, so clearly the Raiders seem to be making it a priority to get him involved not just in the running game. With the Raiders expected to be trailing tonight, the game script could also held Jacobs get some extra looks if they are playing catch-up. Vegas does have some other backs that are more pass catcher than rushers, but they are treating Jacobs like an all-around workhorse. That means plenty of volume in all areas.
This prop is certainly juiced towards the over, but -143 is a price I am still comfortable with. If it continues to move, we could see the actual prop shift to over/under 3.5, and then you may actually get plus money, but I’d personally rather take a position with this sitting at 2.5 despite the somewhat heavy juice you have to pay. Look for a similar workload from Jacobs this week, and if the Raiders fall behind, I think he actually could see even more work in the passing game tonight.
