Blazers vs. Lakers NBA Odds, NBA Picks + Predictions for NBA Playoffs Game 5

Game 5 of the Portland Trail Blazers vs Los Angeles Lakers was initially scheduled to be played on Wednesday. As you probably know, the Milwaukee Bucks decided to boycott their own game, and the rest of the league went along with it. The NBA picks and odds for this game will be similar to what was discussed a couple days ago.

On Mamba Day, the Lakers showed up and blew out the Trail Blazers, going up 3-1 in the series. The NBA odds tonight are predicting the game to get out of hand yet again, with most of the NBA picks from experts siding with the Lakers.

Blazers vs Lakers Game Info

Portland Trail Blazers (35-39) vs. Los Angeles Lakers (52-19)
Date: Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020
Time: 9 p.m. ET
Venue: ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex – Kissimmee, FL
Coverage: TNT

Things have gone from bad to worse for the Blazers. After getting blown out in Game 4, their star Damian Lillard will miss the game tonight. There will be many questions of whether Portland can compete without Lillard’s offense.

Obviously, the Blazers defense has been poor the entire time down in the bubble. They have won games because of their offense, winning these track meets. Lillard was the biggest reason for this, and now they must rely on C.J. McCollum, who has a broken back, and Carmelo Anthony, who is Carmelo Anthony.

It’s now duo vs. duo tonight, with LeBron James and Anthony Davis having the obvious advantage over the previously mentioned two. Davis should have rested legs after playing just 18 minutes in the Game 4 blowout. LeBron only played 28 minutes, connecting on 10-of-12 shots. He will be motivated to end this series tonight and not waste time by playing extra games.

Blazers vs. Lakers NBA Picks + Prop Bets

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope – Points: Over 10.5 (-106)

After the Game 1 loss, Caldwell-Pope has been one of the main players to step up for this team. He has gone over this point total in all three games, averaging 13.7 points per game. Caldwell-Pope is averaging 0.56 points scored per minute, and Awesemo currently has him projected for 27 minutes. Even in last game’s blowout, he played 23 minutes, so he should see enough time either way to hit the over.

Danny Green – Made 3’s: Over 1.5 (-139)

After a bad Game 1, Green has been knocking down some shots. He has hit five shots from long range over the past two games, and he will get plenty of open looks again tonight. The Blazers defense was bad before, but it will be even worse tonight. Losing Lillard means the rest of the cast needs to pick up the offensive slack, causing their defense, especially on the perimeter, to lack.

Danny Green 10+ Points AND Lakers to Win (+200)

I already said above that I think Green will hit at least two 3-pointers, so we just need four more points. I am also pretty confident the Lakers will win this game and close out the series. This is an easy way to get better NBA odds on bets I already like. Green scored 14 points last game and eight points the game prior. While he is far from a lock to hit double-digits, I believe he has a good chance to tonight, for the reasons stated above in the three-point prop.

Gary Trent Jr. – Made Threes: Over 2.5 (-132)

Gary Trent Jr.’s minutes are safe today. If the Blazers are in the game, it will be because Trent was giving them solid offense. If it turns into a blowout, he should stay in the game. Currently, he is projected for 35.25 minutes, which would be his most of the series. He played 34 minutes last game, resulting in him hitting three from long range. Without Lillard, the Blazers need to make up for a lot of offense, and Trent will be asked to play a big part in that.
