PGA Odds & Expert Picks: The BMW Championship
In this new weekly article, Awesemo’s golf experts will give their favorite PGA betting picks, odds, and predictions of the week for the 2021 BMW Championship.
Ben Rasa’s Pick: Aaron Wise
Top 10: 12-1 (FanDuel)
It is down to the final 70 players in the FedEx Cup playoffs, which means the cut sweat is officially over. Everyone will play four rounds, which gives all players a chance to make up ground on the weekend. There are some decent odds in the outright market, but I went to the top-10 market here with Aaron Wise, who is not on most radars.
Wise has struggled all year with the putter, but he recently tried to make some changes to jump start his progress on the greens. Last week he lost 1.7 strokes putting but still finished 21st thanks to crisp ball striking. His putter even hovering around neutral is going to set up for another good showing, as Wise is dialed in tee to green. With only 69 players in the field (Patrick Reed already withdrew), there is an opportunity for Wise to make a move if his putter cooperates. Winning the tournament is probably a stretch, but 12-1 on a top-10 is worth the bet.
Geoff Ulrich’s Pick: Shane Lowry
Outright: 45-1 | Top 10: +350 (BetMGM)
Lowry is coming off a strong week at the Northern Trust, where he finished 11th. He gained over seven strokes on approach and nearly three strokes around the greens but could not overcome a couple of poor drives and putting ,which saw him lose strokes to the field for the week. Lowry has been close to breaking through all season, though, and his third-round 62 showcased how good he can be when on. Lowry has five top-10 finishes over his last 11 PGA starts and has momentum heading into the final legs of the FedEx Playoffs. Five of the last six winners of this week’s BMW Championship finished 12th or better the week prior. Lowry is playing well, fits the main trend and has overcome strong fields like this multiple times in his career. His prices are good here for an outright and top-10.
Jason Rouslin’s Pick: Hideki Matsuyama
Outright: 40-1 | Top 10: +225 (BetMGM)
With 24 birdies last week, Matsuyama scored well enough to win the event. But he uncharacteristically lost over three strokes with the approach. He has not lost on his approaches since the Genesis back in February and has not lost in back-to-back measured stats in at least two years. If his putter stays warm and the approaches come back this week, he is a great top-10 bet. And if the putter gets hot, he is in play to win. He has also shown top form over the last month, with a chance to win in Memphis and a tie for fourth at the Olympics.
