The Colts felt the quarterback play was holding this entire team back, so they made yet another switch for this season. This time, they brought in Rivers to play behind the best offensive line he has had in over a decade. Along with that, he has the best running game he has had in a long time, featuring the two-headed backfield of Marlon Mack and Jonathan Taylor. The pass catchers may be a step down from what he had with the Chargers, but he has done plenty with less talent.
Defensively, the Colts made the big offseason move of trading for DeForest Buckner to anchor the defensive line. Playing in a conference with a power runner like Derrick Henry, this was a move that will pay off. This Colts defense could be a sneaky good group, ranking in the top 10 in many categories. Of course, there shouldn’t be a huge threat in this game.
I mentioned the Buckner move for the Colts to stop Henry. They also did it to stop Leonard Fournette. Luckily, the Jaguars understood that Fournette improved their chances of winning, so they got rid of him along with many other starters, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Offensively, the pass catchers are actually talented, but they will only go as far as Minshew can take them. The success of this team fully lies on his shoulders.
The Jaguars gave up 5.1 yards per carry last season (second worst in NFL). Facing a talented offensive line and running game of the Colts, you can imagine how that will go in this game. We could see two Colts rushers go over 100 yards.
