Edlow’s Edge: OddsShopper NFL + MLB Picks | Monday, 9/21

Sunday went exactly how we expected in NFL, with all five teams in the teaser combos laid out cashing. I’ve been a bit more skeptical on the Monday Night Football game, but with a ton of money coming in on the Raiders to move this line, I have a lean that I may act on by kickoff. There’s also a strong MLB spot to target on Monday. Let’s dive into some of my top NFL picks and MLB picks, along with analysis on the play and the best place to take the bet, courtesy of the Awesemo OddsShopper tool.

Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals: Philadelphia First Five -0.5 (-110)

This spot jumped out at me immediately on the MLB board, with a massive starting pitching mismatch that’s underpriced for Philly. Zack Wheeler has been one of the most profitable first-five pitchers in baseball, going 7-2 on the first-five run line. Wheeler has a 2.62 ERA through nine starts, going more than five innings each time out. He’s allowed just 10 total runs in the first five innings of those nine starts combined, and never more than three in any outing. Wheeler faced the Nationals once and shut them out into the seventh inning, allowing just one hit.

Anibal Sanchez has been the anti-Wheeler this season, giving up a ton of run production early in games. Sanchez has allowed 18 total runs in 17.2 innings over his last four starts, including four runs in 3.1 innings against the Phillies. Sanchez has a 7.38 ERA on the season and has given up four-plus runs in six total starts. The Phillies are the top first-five offense in baseball at 3.53 runs per first five.

OddsShopper has BetMGM offering the top price on Phillies run line for the game, so start there for a first-five play.

New Orleans Saints at Las Vegas Raiders: New Orleans -4 (-107)

The Saints were 6.5-point favorites in this one, and we’ve seen a ton of sharp money come piling in on the Raiders in their Las Vegas debut. This is a spot I like going against the grain and taking a number I never thought we’d see in this game. No Michael Thomas for the Saints will hurt, but he didn’t do much in a double-digit victory Week 1 over Tampa. That same Buccaneers squad handled the Panthers pretty handily in Week 2, which was a team the Raiders struggled against at times in Week 1. Las Vegas allowed 30 points to Carolina, so I just can’t imagine it won’t struggle against the Drew Brees and the Saints. New Orleans was the best road team in the NFL last season, going 7-1 against the spread away from home. Meanwhile, the Raiders should’ve have much of a stadium advantage, as they’ll be playing here for the first time as well. Again, I wasn’t planning on betting this game, but the number has become too good to pass up. I’ll hold out to see if I can get 3.5 here and update on Twitter if I do.

Right now OddsShopper shows us -4 across the board, but some juice is coming down to -107 on a couple books.
