Week 2 NFL Best Bets: Monday Night Football

Jared Goff Under 23.5 Completions

Goff had a huge game in Week 1, as he completed 38 of 57 passes for 338 yards. However, 27 of those passes and 19 completions came in the fourth quarter as the Lions trailed 38-17. The Lions threw the ball on 70.3% of their offensive snaps, but just 13 of those completions were to wide receivers.

Goff is projected to complete 20.57 of his passes against the Packers. He has a 63.4% career completion percentage and is expected to attempt around 30 passes, as the Lions are likely to try to run the ball against a Green Bay defense that gave up 171 yards on the ground to New Orleans. The Saints completed 15 of 21 pass attempts. While the prop line was initially set at under 23.5 completions, FanDuel now lists the under at 22.5 with -108 odds. Still, it is a good bet, as the projected win rate is still well over 65% and the return on investment is 51.2%.

Aaron Jones Over 2.5 Receptions and Over 19.5 Yards Receiving

Jones is coming off a disappointing game in Week 1, as the Packers’ offense struggled mightily against the Saints. He was on the field for just 49.1% of the offensive snaps last week but had just seven touches for 22 total yards. He finished the game with two receptions for 13 yards. Jones is projected to have 3.74 receptions and 29.06 yards receiving against the Lions. He has averaged over three receptions and 27.8 yards receiving per game over the last two seasons. He also has totaled 16 receptions on 32 targets and 9.7 yards per catch in six career games against the Lions. While the odds on Jones’ props have changed, going up from -110 to -113 for yards and changing from -120 to -130 for receptions, both props have over a 70% of hitting, so there is still value there.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling Under 2.5 Receptions

Like the entire Packers offense, Valdes-Scantling struggled mightily against the Saints. He was only able to bring in three of his eight targets for 17 yards in Week 1. He is projected to have 2.02 catches against the Lions, with incredible odds of +130. Scantling has a career catch rate of just 50%, and he had a drop rate of 11.3% last season. Scantling-Valdes brought in two or fewer receptions seven times last year.
