🎲 Wednesday’s NHL Betting Picks of the Day: Kings vs. Blues Moneyline

The Blues and Kings will be back in action again tonight after the Kings shut out these Blues 3-0 on Monday night. The injury bug seems to be catching up with the Blues recently, with a handful of their top nine  forwards out, including Jaden Schwartz, Vladimir Tarasenko and Tyler Bozak. They will also be without top defensemen Colton Parayko and Carl Gunnarsson. On top of the injury bug, goalie Jordan Binnington has not being stellar this season. Despite having a .921 save percentage, his high-danger save percentage is .824, which is one of the worst in the league. Do not be fooled though, this Blues team is still a very good team, led by Ryan O’Reilly and David Perron, who has 19 points in 19 games this season. Let’s get into the best NHL betting picks for tonight’s game as well as a good prop bet to target on Wednesday.

NHL Betting Picks: Kings vs. Blues | Feb 24

On the other side of the ice is a Kings team in transition. Some would call it a rebuild with a lot of new younger talent in the lineup like Gabriel Vilardi and Carl Grundstrom, but they still have very familiar veteran names on the ice in Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown, Jeff Carter and Drew Doughty. Kopitar has been a force this season, with 21 points in 17 games, which is very impressive considering the Kings are 23rd in the NHL in goals scored. The Kings have gotten fairly adequate goaltending this season from the tandem of Jonathan Quick and Calvin Petersen, and they are fourth in the league in high-danger save percentage at .857. This has led to many close games this season that the Kings have been winning, as they are currently in a playoff spot in the tough West Division.

Best Bet: Kings +143, Los Angeles Kings vs St. Louis Blues (DraftKings)

This may seem like an off-the-board pick, but there is value here even though the Kings are the road team tonight. The O’Reilly line will most likely hard-match the Kopitar line tonight, making both top lines a very tough play from a DFS perspective. But this is about the bets. With those lines tied up and the injuries to the Blues, the depth lines for the Kings will have some advantageous offensive matchups tonight. The same lines will definitely have issues defensively, hence the plus money, but the key to this game will be won between the pipes, and the Kings have just been better. The key for the Kings tonight will be Vilardi and Carter. It is no secret they have had issues defensively, but offensively they have been finding their stride and will most likely be matched with the Blues second line of Brayden Schenn and Mike Hoffman, who have not been stellar this season defensively. Vilardi had 2 goals and 2 assists in his past four games, and Carter has had two goals and three assists in his past five. It is not expected they maintain their point per game pace, but this is an exploitable matchup that should give the Kings the edge to win the game.

The Kings rarely confirm a goalie before pregame warmups, but at this price, if there is any inclination that Petersen will be the probable starter, I would grab this line before it moves towards even money. It is also very possibly that Binnington will not get the start either, and if Ville Husso is in the starters cage during morning skate, this price has a lot of value. Depending on goalies (which does not matter much to me), this is a line that should be bet anywhere from +130 and up.

Bonus Bet: Auston Matthews Over 1.5 Points +128 (FanDuel)

This is more of a dart throw, so the recommendation here is not to unload your bankroll on this bet (I have half a unit, $50, on it), but any time you can get plus money on Matthews to get a multi-point game, there is some value. There may be some recency bias baked into this line because Matthew was held off the scoresheet against these same Flames on Monday, but in the five games prior, Matthews exceeded 1.5 points three times and has hit the scoresheet in all five. So again, this is a lighter bet, but it would be remiss to pass up on arguably the Hart Trophy frontrunner for the to have a multipoint game at plus money.
