In this new weekly article, our golf experts will give their favorite picks of the week for the upcoming Memorial Tournament.
Ben Rasa’s Pick: Emiliano Grillo

When something is working, it is probably best to stick with it. Last week I backed Grillo to win the Charles Schwab at 50-1, and although he came up short, he still finished eighth and cashed the 4-1 top-10 ticket. He once again leaned on his iron game and paired that with a short-term spike in his putting. Grillo has gained at least six strokes four of the last five tournaments, which is borderline unheard of, even for the tour’s elite ball strikers.
If the putting continues to remain positive, then there is no reason Grillo cannot once again find himself on the first page of the leaderboard. He has played The Memorial Tournament well in recent years and had a ninth-place finish here in 2019. At 80-1 to win and 4.5-1 to top-10, I am going to continue to buy until the betting markets adjust or the form regresses.
Max Smotritskiy’s Pick: Patrick Cantlay

I cannot in good conscience get away from him this week on my card. While waiting patiently for him to show us something, the PGA Championship came and no one gave this guy a thought. He then proceeded to gain 12 strokes ball striking. To add to the amazing play at the major, Cantlay arrives at a course where he has gained 38 strokes on the field in his last four starts, including a win. The renovations on the course should also suit his game, as he is long and straight off the tee and is on fire with approaches. The reason I am also eager to bet him this week is he is not going to be sneaking up on anyone in DFS, as he is underpriced and screams chalk. While fading Cantlay in DFS is going to be very dangerous, betting him is going to make it that much easier to swallow if he wins.

Geoff Ulrich’s Pick: Aaron Wise

Wise heads into this week’s Memorial off a PGA Championship appearance where he ended the week in 17th. He now ranks 21st in strokes gained tee to green over the last 24 rounds and has made the cut in six of his last seven PGA events. The talent has always been there for Wise, who made the cut at all four majors in 2019 and finished 17th at Augusta National that year on debut. He has now gained over two strokes on his approaches in four of his last six starts and has started to display much better confidence around the greens of late, where he has gained strokes in three straight events. The ball striking Wise is displaying should be good enough on its own to get him (at least) in contention for a top-20, and if we catch him on a putting heater — he did gain 3.5 strokes putting at Kiawah — then a Sunday outright sweat is certainly possible. Jack Nicklaus’ event has always been a good spot for emerging young talent to break through, and Wise’s recent form suggests he can start challenging at these types of events again soon. He is a solid betting target this week at big odds.
Jason Rouslin’s Pick: Keegan Bradley

While my strategy of covering the higher payout bets with the smaller ones has worked the last two weeks, I am still looking for that big return week. I am going to hitch my wagon to Bradley for that return here; getting +175 on the top-20 alone would be a profitable week. Known as a superb ball striker, Bradley has really picked it up on and around the greens lately, which has led to nine straight made cuts. In fact, he hasn’t missed a cut in over five months. If he putts well, he should be near the first page of the leaderboard come Sunday.
Eric Lindquist’s Pick: Louis Oosthuizen
Outright +4000 | Top 10 +300 (PointsBet)
The Louis sweat was real at the PGA Championship, as my pick to win the event finished T-2 with a whopping 11 strokes gained tee-to-green. He’s also now gained strokes putting in 11 consecutive tournaments and continues to rack up top-6’s, having done so in four of his past six events. That makes him one of the best all-around and in-form players in the world right now, as evidenced by only getting +300 for him to top 10 this week. Still, this is an absolute must-add to your betting card this week at 40-1 in the outright market, as Oosty is going to finish one of these off sooner rather than later.
