Saturday Michigan Online Sports Betting Action | Jan. 16

College Basketball: Michigan at Minnesota (2 p.m. EST)

NBA: Detroit Pistons at Miami Heat (8 p.m. EST)

NHL: Carolina Hurricanes at Detroit Red Wings (7 p.m. EST)

Michigan at Minnesota

The 11-0 Michigan Wolverines have been on the short list of most impressive teams to start this college basketball season. They are an incredibly balanced team with no glaring weakness and look destined to be a top seed come March. A tough road game looms against Minnesota, who has knocked off both Iowa and Michigan State at home, but regardless of the result, this Wolverine team is a major factor in the Big Ten.

With this incredible start to the season, Michigan finds itself +800 to win the National Championship, which is third in the country behind Gonzaga and Baylor. If they are able to find a win against a stout Minnesota team on the road, it will most likely drop that number even further, and they could start to climb into the Baylor/Gonzaga territory.

Pistons at Heat

Saturday Night has the Pistons also in action as they travel to Miami to take on the Heat. Detroit could use a win, as they are just 2-9 on the season and the playoffs are slowly slipping away with each passing game. So far Jerami Grant has been the leader, averaging 24.8 points and six rebounds per game. Unfortunately for Grant, he doesn’t have much help right now, and the Pistons haven’t won a single game on the road this season. It’s hard to imagine that changing here against a Miami team, but with all the COVID issues right now, there is a chance the Heat will be shorthanded, which could help to level the playing field.

In the future market the Pistons are pretty much drawing dead, as they are not a realistic team to make a run in the NBA playoffs. They are +50000 to win the title, which gives you an idea of how impossible that happening is this season. They are upwards of +20000 just to win their division, so clearly the market understands that this team is building from the ground up. You are best served to wait for them to be competitive before taking a future position.

Red Wings vs. Hurricanes

The NHL season got started a few days ago, so most teams have only played a single game. The Red Wings got their season started with a 3-0 shutout loss against the Hurricanes, and they will get a chance at revenge on Saturday night. The concept of playing a team back-to-back is interesting and something we didn’t see often in the non COVID world, but it does give us an almost baseball-like series feel to matchups.

Looking at OddsShopper for Red Wings futures sadly they are in the Pistons territory at the back of the pack. They are expected to be one of if not the worst team in the NHL, and that is why they are +30000 to win the Stanley Cup. It’s a clear rebuild for a franchise with so much historical success, and this feels like rock bottom with the future much brighter. It will be hard to take many positions on this team during this season, as wins will be few and far between. They are simply not relevant in the futures market as we just saw. Better days are ahead for both the Pistons and Red Wings, but for now buckle up because both teams are going to have to battle to avoid the basement of their respective leagues.
