As mentioned in the player prop bet article, this bet relies on the superior stuff that Ross Stripling showed in his last start. Stripling had an xFIP of 2.95, 17.8% swinging strikes and threw over 100 pitches for the first time this year. The Blue Jays also have an infinitely stronger lineup top to bottom than the Marlins. Sandy Alcantara is a great pitcher in his own right, and this should be a low scoring game in favor of the Blue Jays. They can be bet at plus-odds, due to Stripling only having just turned the corner as a pitcher. Jumping on early trends is a good strategy in both DFS and MLB betting, and that is why this bet should be profitable in the long run.
Arizona Diamondbacks Over Milwaukee Brewers: +130 (William Hill)
This should be another pitchers duel with Freddie Peralta and Zac Gallen taking the mound. The roof is closed in Arizona to shield the patrons from the immense heat and that should also curb the offense in this game. However, looking at the recent trends for the pitchers, Gallen’s resurgent fastball velocity coming off the IL has really been impressive. Gallen got smacked around by the Giants but had 95 mph average fastball velocity as opposed to 93 mph before his IL stint. Shaking off the rust, Gallen seems primed to have a resurgent season as long as no other injury bugs appear. Peralta, on the other hand, had his second-lowest swinging-strike rate of the year in his last start. I’m unsure if this has to do with the ban on sticky substances, but this is a prime MLB pick to target a big-odds underdog at +130 in this matchup.
Oakland Athletics vs Texas Rangers Over 9 runs: -115 (BetMGM)
The roof is projected to be open and two poor pitching staffs will face off in Texas tonight. The Rangers are using an opener who should be followed by Jordan Lyles. This should be a field day for the Oakland offense against both of the pitchers currently projected to take the mound for Texas. On the other side, Cole Irvin does not project much confidence in keeping the Rangers off the scoreboard. The nine-run total is entirely too low for the projected arms and taking into account the 84-degree weather and 67% humidity, the ball should be flying in Texas tonight.
