Awesemo OddsShopper: MLB Odds + MLB Betting Picks | Friday, Aug. 14

Sports are back in full swing, with an almost overwhelming amount of options to bet on. The NBA card is kind of gross, with all eight teams postseason bound, and nothing on the line to play for. Anything that pops up will be due to injury news. So we’ll be passing on hoops, but there are some solid MLB odds to lock in on. Here are a couple of my few spots on the board for Friday’s betting card, along with analysis on the play and the best place to take the bet, courtesy of the Awesemo OddsShopper tool. Let’s get into some MLB betting picks for today’s action.

**Editor’s Note: Jacob deGrom has been scratched from his start against the Phillies**

MLB Odds + Betting Picks

Atlanta Braves at Miami Marlins: MIA F5 -0.5 (+120)

The season just began a few weeks ago, and I never would’ve seen backing the Marlins over the Braves, but here we are. The Marlins are an MLB-best 8-2-2 on the F5 ML, and face a Braves team that’s just 3-7-1 on the F5 ML on the road this season.

Both teams rank almost identically offensively, although the slight edge does go to the Braves — ATL (5.2 runs per game, MIA (5.0 runs per game). However, Miami has a sizable advantage in the starting pitching department. Pablo Lopez has a 1.80 ERA through two starts, pitching five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits against Baltimore, which has actually impressed offensively. Lopez was very sharp against the Braves last season, with a 2.65 ERA against them in three starts in 2019. Kyle Wright has been downright awful for the Braves. He has a 6.75 ERA, allowing nine runs in 12 innings through three starts, and we know Miami has been doing early damage on these F5 bets.

OddsShopper shows FanDuel is currently offering the best MLB odds on Miami overall, at -104 on the ML. Maybe start there before poking around for the best F5 line if you wind up playing it.

Texas Rangers at Colorado Rockies: F5 U7 (EV)

This is just a massive F5 total, and getting even money on the under feels like too good of a spot to pass on. Betting unders at Coors Field can be scary, but we hit one already this week, and the numbers back it up. The Rockies are 14-4 to the F5 under, including 8-2 at home.

Lance Lynn has a 1.16 ERA with 30 strikeouts through his first four starts, which includes a 1-0 victory over the Rockies in Texas. The only red flag here is Ryan Castellani, who had an 8.31 ERA in Triple-A last season, and gets the start for Colorado. In short, he’s not a good pitcher, but he did impress in his MLB debut — he pitched four shutout innings against the Mariners without allowing a hit. The reason I’m willing to risk an under on his first start at Coors, is how bad the Texas bats have been. The Rangers have been the third-lowest scoring offense in baseball, at just 3.65 runs per game.

This total was 12 on most books for the full game last night, and now mostly 12.5s. But FanDuel is showing a 13 on the board on OddsShopper, so maybe check them out for an even better price on the F5 under.

New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies/Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees: NYM/NYY ML parlay (-109)

This one has square play written all over it, but we hit the Suns/Blazers ML yesterday, so these things do come through if you pick your spots.

The Red Sox have been getting destroyed, and are worth taking a look at fading on the run line — FanDuel offers the best price at -168 on OddsShopper. Friday’s matchup is Gerrit Cole against Colten Brewer — a middle-of-the-pack reliever. Boston has a bottom-10 bullpen in baseball, and gave up 17 runs to Tampa on Thursday (following 25 combined runs the previous three games). Jacob deGrom will take on the Phillies, who start a rookie and back him with the worst bullpen in baseball by a mile — Philly’s bullpen ERA is over 10. This one is a simple bet.

FanDuel is offering the best ML price on the Mets at -194, while BetMGM is leading the market with a -334 price on the Yankees. Use OddsShopper to find the best MLB odds before you place this to try and find the best combo for the parlay.
